Hello, new egg here!!

Thanks for liking the post about Dottie. The other 5 chickens make a 'buk/buk/bucaaawk' noise when they talk; Dottie still has a baby voice and says 'cheep/cheep/cheep'. Still trying to get a decent current photo to share.

Update on the 6 Buff Orpingtons. Yesterday morning I saw some red on one of the chickens so I looked more closely. Yep, red. Checked and all 6 had red. They are growing wattles and the combs are a tiny bit larger! Even Dottie is growing wattles so she is on schedule with the others. WooHoo!!

Update on my 6 Buff Orpingtons. They continue to grow and thrive. Dottie has outgrown her baby "cheep-cheep" voice and now talks like the bigger girls.

I'm pretty sure one of the 6 might be a rooster; too soon to tell.

One of the bigger girls actually lets me pick her up now; she seems to be okay with it - does not make a fuss. If I can get a leg band on her I will name her Ever. I once met a little girl whose first name was Ever and middle name was Peaceful...it was the late 60's and there were lots of hippies around. Three have names: Dottie, Pamela, and now Ever. If one turns out to be a roo he will be named Sasquatch, or maybe just Sassy.

Such an awesome story you have to tell. So much better than a Puff the Majic Dragon one. Please enjoy your chickening years. You earned them. I am in the Puff camp but still like my chickens. If you can bond with chicken they will definately heal your soul. My current y batch aren't helping me much, my last ones did.

BTW my wife and I are vegan we don't even eat their eggs. The neighbors swear they are the best eggs ever(we free range them).

Hello everyone! I haven't posted in a while because I have been busy trying to build a chicken coop. The coop is still under construction but today I managed to sort of finish a smaller coop-ette. It's a little small for 6 chickens but it's far better than having them inside the house. Here is the small coop-ette and the 6 Buff Orpingtons inside (one is Dottie the bantam). And, the best news is that one of these girls is ahead of schedule. Look!! First egg!!

Thank you. And guess what?! I went out back to give the girls a treat and there was a second egg! I better hurry up and finish building the coop and get the nest box area finished.

Good news. The little coop-ette was secure and kept the chickens safe last night. They are a bit crowded but in a day or two, the outside run area will be finished and they will be able to move around more.

This morning I told my dog, Jack, to go find the chickens. He immediately ran to the guest room and was very confused that the room contained zero chickens. Then I took Jack outside and he suddenly remembered and ran out back to visit the chickens. Life with chickens is very interesting.
