Hello, new egg here!!

Pics
Just adding a note here. Today I discovered that little Dottie has only one eye. She used to have two eyes. The other chickens do not pick on her so I am assuming there was some kind of accident. She is still smaller than the other 5 but is always first at the food dish. When I add treats I make sure to do so from her good side so she has a fighting chance. Today's treats were some lovely grasshoppers and some ripe elderberries. Dottie enjoyed more than her share!

Okay, better news.
I was able to examine Dottie and she still has her eye.
I believe she has an infection and I have started antibiotic eye drops. I am looking to buy the antibiotic that is mixed with drinking water so treat all the chickens so the infection won't spread.

Hello, things have been super busy around here plus I was sick with that fake flu that was going around (over 3 1/2 weeks!!) and am still catching up with all the chores.

The little runt I call Dottie is doing fantastic. She knows her name and answers me. She's almost as large as her 5 sisters but she still has a small comb. She's the first one at the food dish every day.

Egg laying slowed down when they were molting but recently they started laying again. 6 hens, 9 eggs in two days is not bad. The girls get to walk around the yard about twice a day and I stay with them as there are hawks and owls nearby.

My neighbor decided that I needed a rooster!! She gave me a Light Brahma that she hatched out - he's still a bit young. She's busy giving away 5 more roosters.

Not the best photo but you can at least see how pretty he is. I didn't give him a name yet but mostly I just call him Roose. I rigged up a soft suede tether and attached it to a dog leash just in case he decides to run across the road to back to his former home. Gotta keep him safe.
