I found this chick pipped under the broody hen 26 hours ago. His beak was not at the pip location so I picked the egg up to investigate and the membrane was dry, there was no movement, and I didn’t hear any pips. I placed him in the incubator for a few hours while I did some research. I read that if the beak was not present at the pip site they were at risk of suffocation so I slowly began peeling the shell (not the membrane) to find his beak.
Once I found his beak he began moving and chirping (I was so relieved bc when I found him I was almost certain he had passed). Anyways, I applied virgin coconut oil using a q-tip and placed him back in the incubator. When applying the coconut oil I can see yellow stuff (yolk?) and red veins in the membrane. I’ve continued applying the oil every few hours and keeping humidity up but he doesn’t seem to be absorbing the yolk and veins. I do see him making a “chewing” motion but I’m worried about how long he can stay in the egg.
It’s been 26 hours now and if anyone knows how to save him please let me know ASAP!
