HELP HUGE EMERGENCY!!!!

Did you happen to save the "thing" that you found in her vent? (look similar to the photo below?)
She is still expelling "egg stuff" like yolk and/or albumen (egg whites)? photos

Hello! Since you wanted me to keep you updated I got the thing in the photo above out and now my hen is doing great, I gave her a bath and then she let some of it out and I helped it out and now she is relieved!!!

Since that was in there for a while and she has egg/albumen leaking from the vent, if she were mine, I would still give her a round of antibiotics to help with infection.

It wouldn't hurt to give her extra calcium for a few days either. 1/2 tablet of Caltrate.
Hopefully this was just a glitch and she won't have any more problems, but I'm sure you will keep an eye on her for a while.

When shopping for amoxicillin does it matter what animal it’s for and should I get the pill ones? What type? And should she take it orally?

Hello, I was wondering since my hen is doing great and basically back to her normal self, if I needed to give her the antibiotics because the closest place with amoxicillin was closed. I feel like a bad chicken mom but I couldn’t get it today. Do you think she is okay without it

Since amoxicillin is normally a prescription drug, most people don’t have it around to give, but it might help. With my only hen who has had this problem 5 years ago, I didn’t have it either. I did lose her eventually, presumably to internal laying or egg yolk peritonitis, but I did not do a necropsy at the time because of a blizzard.

I’m sorry for your lose. So she would die if I didn’t get her the antibiotics? I might be able to get it within a week but my hen is acting normal..

Thank you. That was the only time I witnessed it, but it has probably happened more often in my coop. I have found evidence of broken egg material, but usually if another hen notices that or an egg membrane sticking out of a vent, they eat them right away. I am not saying that your hen will die, but the egg material inside the vent area can be a medium for bacterial growth. I probably wouldn’t worry too much about it, but just get some for another time. Amoxicillin is a drug that can come in handy while having chickens. I keep a bottle of FishMox nowadays.
