I stepped outside in the front porch and found this little guy slithering around. I can tell it’s not venomous or bad but I just wanted to know what type of snake it is?
Does it pose a threat to my chickens? I have 3 very small hens (one is about the size of a pigeon). I got a few pics of him and heres one of my girls. Thanks !!

That's a rat snake-----a fairly small one. It won't hurt your chickens, even the small one, but it will eat eggs. I just pick them up and relocate them a few miles away from the house. They're very docile snakes. I like having them around other than the egg eating part.

Looks like a Racer to me... here we’d typically call it a ‘blue racer’ ... other places, it’d be a ‘black racer’

You might Google “coluber constrictor” for reference and see if that matches what you saw and where you live

That’s another I thought it could be. Their location will give a better idea.

Jeeze I’m glad I’m in Alberta Canada. We only have the very harmless Garter Snake.

Send me your address and I’ll box you up some snakes and send them to you...

How are you set on ticks, chiggers, wasps, and spiders? We have more of those than we need too, and I hate to seem ‘em go to waste ;)

If I saw that here in Missouri I would say that's a young rat snake which also goes by the name of black snake. They get up to four or five feet long and as big around as your arm, especially if it can help itself to your eggs. Ask me how I know, lol.

Whatever you run out of , I will be glad to supply.

That snake will be more of an asset than a problem. Right now he'll be eating mice and perhaps small rats. If he grows/advances to eggs, he can be relocated.
