And another thing if you will protect your rooster from a hawk bare handed you are the one I would want to protect my kids in case you were their teacher.

Awesome job! Thank you so much for catching-and-releasing. (and not shooting and shutting up)

Writer, I've picked up a redtail in a coat, and that was scary enough. Then when she was healed I picked her up to release her (wearing thick gloves). You're very lucky yours was young and inexperienced because those talons can do some real damage!
And although they click their beaks to be scary, I've been told they very rarely bite.

I'm glad you released him but I'll bet he'll be back unless you took him a loooooong ways away.

You'd have been within your rights to kill him, since he was on your roo and endangering your flock.

All total, good job

http://apps.leg.wa.gov/documents/laws/wsr/2003/02/03-02-005.htm Maybe I missed it, but it doesn't say anything about not being able to capture and relocate a raptor who is trying to capture your chickens. From what I have read, it is only pertaining to the capture of birds to be used for the purpose of falconry. Where do you see tht it is illegal. Now, I do know it is illegal to kill raptors. Opps, sorry htis is for washingt on state. I will look for new mexico.

To glorify ILLEGAL actions is not good, where I come from that is a bad example!

Harlans,

Thank you for your input. Everyone's differing opinions are what make this forum so valuable.

That said, I think you have done an excellent job getting your opinion across - I don't believe that any further input is needed or appreciated.

Thank you,

Spring

Thanks for being so polite in telling me to shut up....I will decide when to do that!

Regardless of how she caught it.....it is illegal and she is a school teacher.....supposed to be setting a good example for our impressionable children!

There are other...legal means to control raptors.

I would have tried to be as brave if something threatened my girls. And from many other threads in the past MOST of us know you are one of the greatest examples for your students. They are lucky to have you as a role model.
