I found this thread! I'm super excited because I'm doing my first hatch ever! My husband wanted to give me a Christmas present, so I suggested an incubator - hello Nurture Right 360! I put 23 eggs into it and will be candling them for the first time on day six, which is tomorrow. Mostly blue eggs from my prairie bluebells, crossed with my (production red? RIR-mix?) rooster Speckle, so they should all be green egg layers. I also have 4-5 green eggs in there (starlight green eggers + Speckle), so they might lay all green or half green, half brown, depending on Speckle.
I also put in one egg from my SGE that lays tan (Cinnamon), because her eggs are always extra large and she lays them every day, so I think that one will end up laying a darker brown. And I think I finally figured out which blue egg my favorite PBB (Chipmunk) lays, so then I had to put one of hers that I knew was for sure hers in there, because she's really pretty and lays large blue eggs every day, and that was the 23rd egg.
So I'm hand turning Chipmunk's egg along with one of the green ones and Cinnamon's egg until I candle tomorrow, after which I hope I'll have 22 or less that are still developing. Chipmunk's known egg is either 3-4 days behind the others, so I'll probably keep turning it while everyone else is in lockdown, assuming it makes it that far. I hope so, I really love her coloring.
I sprayed all my eggs with hydrogen peroxide until they were dripping, and scrubbed off any dirt. I had 3 eggs that were very dirty, and of course they were the largest blue ones, so I wanted to hatch them anyway and needed a way to clean them. Has anyone here ever used the
Manna Pro Egg Cleanser to clean hatching eggs prior to incubation? It was either that or the H2O2, and I know they use H2O2 commercially, so I went with that - guess we'll see how it goes...
45-52% RH for stage one, 99.5% F. I checked my temperature with my reptile thermometer, and it's pretty much right on. Hoping for the best on the RH, but that's generally pretty accurate, and I think we have greater wiggle room there.
Day 21 is January 21st! Wish me luck!!!
