July 2022 Hatch-A-Long

Remind me where you sourced these eggs from? Some hatches are rougher than others.

Congrats on the 2 chicks! They are adorable.
It was the first time hatching from our own flock, so a bit of extra disappointment. There’s a few possibilities I’d like to test out:

1. I grabbed the wrong eggs 😅 I’d collected some specifically to hatch and got busy, they sat for over a week. I thought I put all back into the eating section, but maybe not.

2. Poor quality roo. Apparently he’s only been fed scratch until he moved in with us. He’s now on an All Flock

3. Too early for him to have serviced all the ladies in the flock

4. Too long since last mating. He had an accident and stayed in his old coop for a few weeks to recover, so it was about 2 weeks since he’d been with the hennies when I’d gathered eggs

I’m not as much worried about the clear eggs as so many quitters. We did have a few hours or so when the incubator got unplugged. Hoping that’s the main issue 🤞🏼

Well, it is now the 2nd half of Day 18 (set at 4pm) and I just wanted to tell you guys about last night. There was one little egg (#2 Marans) that was just wobbling and wiggling like crazy all night. So I've decided, if that one hatches, I'm naming it Mumble (the little penguin off Happy Feet) because it seems like he was just dancing away in there and it was adorable! I really hope that's one of the first to hatch. Can't wait to meet little Mumble! 😍

That is adorable! ❤️

Just realised the black chick will be able to tell us who lays the speckled eggs! The mom is either a Sapphire Splash or Sapphire Gem, dad is black. So if it’s a black chick, the Gems are the mom correct?
Yes. If these are your options for possible parents. Black x Splash will give you 100% blue chicks. Black x Blue will give you 50/50 Blue or Black.😊

Things are happening here with the Dominique’s. 4 have hatched, several others are pipped.
