July 2022 Hatch-A-Long

Pics
I’m excited for all you guys still going strong! These next hatches will be fun to watch.

I’m tapping out after July HAL. However I’m already planning next years hatches: Leghorns, bantams (probably Silkies), and my own birds!
I’m tapped out too but following to help w my incubator addiction. I have also bookmarked two egg sellers including Gypsy Hen for next years hatch…planning waaaaaay ahead, and living vicariously through you all! Thank goodness I have babies in the brooder to cuddle! 😂

I couldn't wait anymore, so decided it was dark enough in the room to candle....27/40 are definitely fertile!! I got pics (not great ones, my phone camera sucks) of a fertile one from each variety.

And here's a treat for ya...the Silver with the worst crack, which I almost threw out, with a little heartbeat goin in it! Didn't get a video, but snapped a pic for you:

That was the one my phone really didn't wanna focus on, but I got it! 11/14 Wheatens look fertile, 6/11 BBS, and 10/15 Silvers! Woot!
ETA: The cracked egg also has a saddled air cell, so this little guy is really gonna have to beat the odds. Come on, #40, you got this!!

Oh, I also got some little trays and some shelf liner (FINALLY!) to put my eggs in at lockdown so I don't have to flinch every time a newly hatched chick tries to play soccer with the unhatched ones. I swear it affects my hatch rate cuz they get spun into the wrong position, so I wanted to see if hatch rate improves when they are all safe in their little trays. Can't wait to see how they work!

The best news possible!!! Hopefully this is the start of a wonderful Ameraucana flock for you.

What did you repair the egg with?

I used clear nail polish. Lots of it. Thank goodness it's the pointy end of the egg, so it shouldn't have any effect on baby hatching. The saddled and detached air cells look a lot more stable, too. Although, there was one that was totally detached still that me and my daughter watched float around, past the embryo, in one of the eggs. I hope that one is still gonna be able to hatch. Hopefully it'll stabilize some over the next few days. Craziest thing I ever saw while candling tho, lol.

oh how exciting! You set them on Mon right? This makes me excited and more scared to candle mine. I have had such bad luck with shipped eggs I am always so sad to see nothing. I try to convince myself it is "too early" but then others that set the same day see things and I really know that isn't the case....... I still haven't checked mine yet. LOL going to soon actually. I won't check all 28 but will pick some of each one.

Congratulations! The fun is just beginning! ❤️

So looks like most of not all the project eggs I checked are developing. The splash Cochin from same seller I think are but they were harder to see.

The BBS Cochin from the seller I tried last time I didn't see anything I could say 100% was doing something.
