July 2022 Hatch-A-Long

Pics
Little Himawari is proving to be an excellent first time mama. First day out with the babies. She is constantly talking to them, it is very sweet. A sparrow got to close and she made a sound I had not heard before and the two littles immediately went flat. Must of been some kind of warning sound.
So interesting to observe the maternal behavior for the first time.🥰

I’ve had almost no time for chickens today. 😭

I was able shifting out the new littles from Hoover’s. It was then I noticed they are looking suspiciously like little Easter egger or some other colored eggers. 5 have pea combs and most have beards/muffs.😲

I also noticed the box say “Hatchery choice females”. Nothing about white and brown layers. Oh well. My interest in peeked enough I’ll grow them all out.

Will I ever get my white egg layer!?🤣

Today I sold or gave away some of my June hatch plus this week’s known males. Enough that I won’t feel overwhelmed growing out everything else we have (especially with all these odd ball Hoover’s females).

Just candled...I lost 5 more :hit
3 were wheatens, so I only have 6/14 wheatens left, all 6 (out of 11) bbs are looking great, and the other 2 I pulled were silvers, so I only have 5/15 left of them. I'm super bummed about the silvers. I lost 2/3 of them now. I don't know why I keep losing so many so quickly. One day they're fine and the next they're dead. It's so sad. I'm assuming it's because of the shipping conditions, because all of the blues shipped fine, and the 6 that started to develop are all still alive, so I don't think it's incubator conditions causing it. My temp and humidity look good with calibrated thermometer/hygrometers(2) on opposite sides to watch for cool spots. Everything seems fine, so I'm thinking it's gotta be because of how they were handled on their way here. I may end up having to get more of the wheatens and silvers at some point, if they continue to die off like they have been. Dang. Really hope I get some of both to hatch. I need floofies in my life!

I'm sorry!

I am sorry. Guessing the time they were lost and had to sit over the weekend didn't help them at all. :(

I was so proud for not looking today but now I am nervous where you lost some. I keep trying to tell myself they were fine the day before so don't need to check then still end up checking. Tonight was the first night I hadn't...... So far all of mine that started were still going strong but I do have some that look like they may have wonky air cells so hoping that doesn't harm them in the end and it works itself out!

Ok had to go check. All 10 plus one.... Are doing well.

So yesterday at day 9 I checked all eggs. Didn't see veins or anything in one sellers eggs, but questioned one egg but saw no veins so kept it. Cracked open some of the ones I took out and all of the ones I cracked were scrambled so just tossed the rest.... Now hoping I was right. Checked the other one tonight and can't see veins but thought I saw movement... Then questioned if it was something floating around and not movement. Took a pic and looks like I can see the eye. So took a video and in the video I can see it getting darker and lighter as it moves...... I am now praying none I didn't crack had chicks in them that I missed!!!! It is day 10 wouldn't think I would miss them...

Here is the pic
