Same thing with my past Marans. It takes forever for them to start laying. Easy 8+ months depending on the time of year.

I just put an order in for a dozen Black Copper Marans chicks (breeder, not hatchery). I’d be shocked if these chicks will start laying before winter. Meaning it’ll be next spring before I get any eggs from them.

That’s ok though. I like high maintenance animals. 🤣

Dear Hubby brought home two 18-count cartons of BYM eggs from a co-worker. They were supposed to be for making deviled eggs as half my girls are on strike, but they were somehow forgotten and were left at work since last Friday. Coworker was going to pitch them in the trash, but instead DH decided to bring them home just in case I wanted to see if they were still viable enough to hatch. One egg was cracked, but that still leaves me with 35 eggs going into the incubator. Note that this from the man who claimed he didn't want any more eggs incubated after I set the batch turkey eggs I have going, lol. 🤣

First pips! I can hear cheeping too.

Pulled 6 eggs out of 27 today, day 4. Happy to report the eggs I thought were clear were, and the one I thought was early quitter was. I cracked them to check, holding my breath. Leaves me with 21 eggs in 22 spaces. No more manual turning/checking 3 times a day. 😊
That’s great your guesses were correct! Thinning is bitter sweet. We want them all the hatch but, like you said, it’s nice not to manually turn.
