June 2022 Hatch-a-long

A third hen has gone broody here since 2 weeks ago. Their timing is awful. I will them all brood, but they have to do it in sequence not synchronously, for my sanity if not for theirs. So one out and another one into the broody gaol today And the first one has a week to go to hatchday

Day 7, a couple quitters but all others look healthy. I’ll check after dark before purging. Very excited for this hatch of barnyard mixes.

Mine are in the incubator! I squeezed 27 in the NR360 with the help of 5 single egg carton cutouts. They actually slightly moved while still upright when I tested the turner! It will open up a bit on day 7 when I am assuming I’ll have to remove a few.

Looks great! I had quite a few in mine 0-36 hours. Did a big purge and got down to 23. I can’t wait to see what hatches for you. Those are some beautiful eggs.

Yup, additional candling revealed 2 quitters. My daughter did an eggtopsy. One had two embryos. Three other eggs have development but the embryos seem small. I’ve got them marked to follow up with in a few days.

That leaves 21 eggs remaining in the incubator.

Looks great! I had quite a few in mine 0-36 hours. Did a big purge and got down to 23. I can’t wait to see what hatches for you. Those are some beautiful eggs.

Oh man. Shipped eggs are rough. I’ve tried hatching too many to count. Best hatch rate was 66% (18/24) and I was thrilled to get that. As low as 1/12. I sincerely hope you’re one of the ones who gets 100%!

Thanks! That’s why I added a dozen local eggs…I didn’t want this hatch to be a complete flop!

WOW on the 66%! I have 18 shipped eggs under 2 broody's and really hoping that I get at least 6 to hatch! Last time I tried I had 12 shipped but 4 came cracked/broken. So put 4 the remaining 8 under a broody and 4 in the incubator. 2 under the broody went to hatch day the other 2 never started. The 4 in the incubator 2 never started, 1 quit around day 5-7 and the last one hatched. One under the broody hatched. the other one internally pipped but never externally pipped and I was too late for a safety hole (I brought it into the incubator so I could watch it after it did nothing). I did an eggtopsy and all veins and yolk was absorbed. I was so sad! so only got 2/12 eggs or 2/8 unbroken eggs.

I ordered these ones from a different seller on ebay and the packaging was better so they all arrived safe. hoping more develop and keep growing and make it to hatch.

How did you know who to take out so early? Not so much a fan of manually turning 3 times a day but I also don’t want to remove too early. Figured I might see quitters day 5, and clears by days 7-10.
