How much space would you recommend for a trio of them? I can't imagine it's the normal 4sq feet per hen and 6 per rooster that I use for my normal birds

I'd go larger than the usual recommendation, yeah. Mine are in a large coop and run by themselves, and they're doing well with that. But I can't really say what the minimum space would be, because I've never tried to find out, haha.

Thank you. I was looking at getting some eggs to hatch and wanted to be sure they would have enough room. Are theyva breed that does better with small groups of hens (1-2) or the more hens the better?

Mine aren't quite old enough to tell yet, but I will tell you the cockerels so far have been very good with the pullets.
 
Here's a couple of our roosters. 10 months old now, getting pretty big, still plenty of growing left.

Now I really want some XD. Maybe I'll convert one of my lamb pens for a couple
They are cool birds. I'm going to be working with my line going forward to get the breed as healthy as possible. Going to start with a spiral breeding program to get some solid genetic diversity and then switch to line breeding for locking specific traits.
