casportpony has published threads on antibiotics and dosages. Infection is an issue with turtle bites. The wound needs plenty of air to reduce risk of gangrene.

There is a new law restricting access to antibiotics. A vet would be best. Aside from that you may need to get creative, since staying ahead of infection is critical.

Dosage recommended for Cephalexin is 100 mg/kg (1 kg = 2.2 lbs) every 4 hrs according to Avian medicine: Principles and Applications. That means a 5-6 lb chicken can receive 250 mg 2x a day 12 hours apart. Effective against staph and E.coli strains.

Do you happen you know the dosage for antibiotics for ducks? I currently have left over cephlexin 500mg caps that I've been sprinkling a small amount on some dried mealworms so he'll eat it. Is there anything else/better?

See above quote for dosage... maybe make just a spoonful of his feed wet, let it soak and get mushy, then mix the Cephalexin in it... give him that bit first before letting him free feed...

:fl for him!

So here we are a few days later and his foot is deff starting to swell. Blu-kote is on it so it's hard to tell how some of the smaller lacerations are healing. I'm extremely worried about the swelling in the toes and his lower leg. I've uploaded some comparison photos. Can this just be the body swelling due to the injury like a humans would do or is there something massive going on here? I really don't want to put him down and vets aren't an option here. We have continued his epsom salt soak, cephalexin, blue-kote, neosporin and light wraps. I'm just about at a loss in what else to do and just getting more upset. He does drink his water but he has stopped eating his food unless it's held in your hand. He will eat mealworms, cantaloupe and watermelon. He poop is a dark green and I think I saw white this morning on top of it.. not sure..

Also I should mention, the foot is not hot.. it feels normal. And as for the wrap I just place a piece of gauze under his foot and wrap with some roller gauze, pretty loose. And just use a small piece of tape down on the edges of the gauze

I see... you need to weigh him and give the proper amount orally. Let me know what he weighs and I'll look it up.

I am not sure how much he weighs yet, but I have 500mg on hand. So I've just been putting that into halves and giving it to him in the morning and night. Since all he will eat right now is dried mealworms, cantaloupe and watermelon I sprinkle it over the mealworms and then Whatever is left in my hand I try to wipe up with the fruit and give to him.
