March Hatch-A-Long

Pics
Chicks should be due this weekend I think! I stupidly got stressed and didn't mark the exact date I put them in. They seem to be doing well though!

My biggest concern is how the heck to set them for lockdown. Saddle cell on one side, wonky air cell on the other. I've asked with no luck, so I'm going to wing it.

I expect a high risk hatch for them. Fingers crossed!

I bought this, on Amazon, I think it was like $9 but if you wanted an adjusting holder to use if you had like a wood brooder it was like $11. I could take a pic of it if you need it. It screws into the side of the brooder.

Thanks I did bought it at a local store on the way home for $6 and I think they’ll move to traditional waterers in few weeks since I got plenty of them (8 to be exact) I’m not sure why:D

That was one of my questions too, but none of my badly saddled eggs made it to the end. If they had, I planned to hatch them upright in cut down egg cartons.

That's sad that yours didn't make it! I seem to have somewhere between four and six eggs out of my 12. Out of those 2 are perfectly normal. The saddle cell on the bottom makes a deep U on one side of the egg, and the air cell makes a deep U on the other side of the egg. It's a head scratcher for me. I've been told to put the air cell up, as well as the saddle cell. Maybe I'll take your suggestion and hatch them upright.

I haven't seen any movement in any of the eggs, but I know they're growing. It's frustrating since the eggs are SO DARK. (Green and dark brown shells). They're also super heavy. I'm excited for the little creatures.

Unfortunately, my lighter d'uccle seems to have trouble staying upright, and I can't figure out why. I thought it had something to do with it not spreading its toes, but I'm not sure that's it. Either way, it doesn't fully stand up or extend its legs, so it might just be weak. I'm not expecting it to survive though I really wish it would. Especially since I'm curious why it's lighter than the rest.

Day 20 here.. Broody still doing a champion job.

I have 3 in incubator too, not sure if it's my eyes but I think I've seen some slight movement of the eggs :pop
