Hi Krystal! I haven't posted in so long Im sorry! Hope the weather lets up for you soon.

Looks like you've got a nice garden started. Hey, have you ever tried pre-sprouting your seeds? I could hardly ever get seeds to grow (or only half of them would) and so I usually had to buy potted veggie starts -expensive for what they produced. Anyway I learned about pre-sprouting on wet paper towels and you can tell in a few days which seeds are viable and which are duds. Then you bury the sprout in soil and you have a plant in no time. This is what my sprouted seeds looked like... I placed a sheet of wax paper over the top to hold in some moisture and used a spray bottle to mist them to keep damp.

I made a chart so I could remember which seeds were what.

Then transferred the sprouts to pots. They needed sunlight but it was still very cold out so I used clear bins with loose lids as mini greenhouses

My space is really limited so I use the square foot garden method in raised beds.

I don't know if it's too late for you to start more seeds, but if you want a staggered crop of something, it might be fun to try pre-sprouting.
Here's an article that totally inspired me and explains how it works.

Are all of your birdies still doing good?

I am inlove with your garden!!!

We have 3 people so far to take some of the extra chillie plants as we only want 1 of each tree up the driveway. Also, some Strawberrie plants have been given to Jordans dad for his garden.

Looking great:thumbsup

I have been able to grow everything we have tried so far but the chillies were hard and the one thing we really wanted to grow lol.
I know! It seems like any of the peppers are so hard to get going... I was not successful with those at all. But I still thought it was really fun to start seeds on paper towels, and to see the root and then the little sprout starting... I mean I know how seeds grow, but to see them "not in the soil" is really interesting. And ever since I started adding chicken-poop-compost, my garden has been growing fantastic! It's exciting yours is doing so well

Also, my flock is absolutely amazing yours?
All my girls seem happy and are out free ranging in my backyard for a couple hours every evening. My babies from this spring are now 23 weeks old and not laying yet... lazy buggers! And Jewel, my oldest hen is in a terrible molt and looks so pathetic, and she's done laying for the winter. Which I knew would happen and part of the reason I got spring chicks-- so I'd have eggs through fall and winter. But now the days are shorter and I don't know if my young girls will even start laying at all before spring.
:barnie
At least they're still sweet and cute!

We have just planted our chillies that started growing in the paper towel in pots and we are waiting for them to pop out of the soil :pop

Im glad your babies are well. Ohhh you will have to show us photos of them molting lol poor darlings.

Opinions Please:
Free ranging? Should I let my babies out more during the days. They will be out for about 4 hours in the day by themselves with out one of us being home.
Im nervous for them to go missing but I feel they would be happy, healthier, have more things to eat and not stuck together all day.

I need to make the decision.
Im happy with the roosters protecting the coop and warning the others of danger but im just scared they will walk off.
Help please?
