Hi KLIL,
have you tried putting a little light inside the coop at night? If not, it should coax them inside. If there's already a light, then they're stubborn. lol You shouldn't need the light for long for them to get it.. hopefully.

I have not personally experienced it, but theory is something got wonky in the crop and they were able to spit it out.

just a side note about oatmeal... Oats and barley contain a compound that when fed in "excess" act as a nutrient blocker. I don't know what "excess" really is as the numbers in the books I read are all over the place. The nutritionist I work with limits the combination in blended feeds to 12% with the assumption we're going to treat with scratch grains that contain them. So best advice is always in moderation.

Hi yall! Okay, went out to the coop this morning to the site of my gals chasing each other around and stealing from one another an EGG SHELL... I am hoping that it was the soft egg that broke and that is what caused them to do this I stopped them and took the egg right away... If I wind up with egg eaters I don’t know what I’ll do

Umm I’ve had 1 hen a while back the threw up, but it was only when she was picked up... she never ate it though...

Since Rose (3 months) and Nancy (2 months) share their own coop, I let them free range while I was cleaning up outside... They spent all their time following me and chirping until they got me to pick them up and give them a big snuggle...

I will try that. We have a light on the front of the coop that lets of a little like enough to see and its solar so it runs until about 8pm. Ill see if I have a lamp to put in the roost. If not ill have to go get a bulb for the heat lamp during the week. Thank you lovely

One of those solar yard lights would work well and they're LED so no worries about fire. The theory is that it's dark and scary going through that door, so putting the light in reassures them all is ok.

ETA: You telling them to go up the ramp gives them confidence as you wouldn't let anything happen to them.

Ohhh yes, I did read this too. I think the chicks have had it twice and Hazel hasn't had it much only lately with the chicks. Im just treating them abit more frequent at the moment to train them to come to my call. But ill keep in mind about not too much oats.
