New Chicks attacked by my original flock.

I am soooooo sorry for the chick, Wash with a salin rinse and put the baby in a cage by her self,if it keeps bleeding put cornstarch on it. I'm so sorry!!!!!!:fl:hugs:hit:hit
Thankyou, I have put him by himself with food and water. He is eating and drinking on his own. I think all of the flesh Wlwounds are fine. It's the damage done to the head that worries me most. Like I said previously it was bleeding out of its ear when I found it. I got a Q-tip and tried to soak it up then gently rub Neosporin on the wound. I'm just hoping there's no brain damage.:bow

Unfortunately, those prefab coops claim to hold more than they should. Recommended minimum coop space is 4 sq. feet per bird. For run space, the recommended minimum is 10 sq. feet per bird. Over crowded chickens can develop bad habits like cannibalism and feather picking.

I would not put more than 2 standard sized chickens in that size coop or 4-5 bantams at a push. Definitely not more than 3 standard birds unless they free range all day every day otherwise you are asking for trouble.
Oh yes I let them out every morning they stay out all day and then they return at night and I close the door. They are free to do whatever they want during the day.

Is it ok just for roosting at night, that is all I use it for. My chickens are free range.

Unfortunately it is not big enough to integrate chicks in especially when they are confined overnight in that tiny coop. For integration you need significantly more space than the recommended square footage, not less than the bare minimum as you have. Even as fully grown birds you will have another blood bath in there even trying to integrate just 2 more, and it is just not big enough to operate a see but can't touch system in it. I would suggest you either find homes for all 4 chicks if they survive this or invest in a bigger coop or another separate small coop for the chicks.

That is roughly the same size (different style) as what i call my mini pen. I wouldn't keep more then 2 standards in there unless they can free range all year round.

You could? Maybe section of the lower part directly under the coop for the chicks but you will need to build a small nest box or something for then to sleep in our get out of the wind and you would be greatly reducing the space for the older girls.

Could you exstend the area by biulding a larger run around the pen? Then you could give the chicks a safe area and give all three girls more room to move during the day.

Aggression usually correlates with space issues, in that someone feels thier space is to limited and they will attack the lowest bird in a pecking order in hopes to remove then flock the area. In the wild the attempt would be to simply run off the others to find thier own new home.

If they are content at night i wouldn't worry to much about it right now, but in my experience a chick does not become part of the flock untill they are laying. With that coop you will continue to have issues until the new chicks can establish them selves in the ranks of the flock. And you may still have issues after that. I would find a way to create a second home for the chicks and work then up to free ranging with the hens making sure they stay seperate at night. Eventually they will likely move into the same coop. As oddly enough they often times would rather be crowded together with thier flock the apart. But you will have to keep close watch untill you are certian they are all in agreement with it.
