Thanks for your sympathy. Its not the cold killing them. I would have bought them sooner except hubby didn't think i was ready, too much else to do. If enough of them survive i may be able to hatch replacements this spring. Or if they all die off i may get some other breed of brown egg layers.I'm sorry Cappy. I hope the losses stop soon. This cold weather hasn't been helping things. Maybe try for a hatch that puts them at laying age before the cold sets in next year?
Once Holy gets to cocking age, I'll happily send you some eggs from my wimmin!
What are your numbers at currently?
Thanks. I just know it is not fun at all. Not how i invisioned keeping chickens would be here. Maybe I'll raise turkeys instead!I know is not the cold that is at fault, but the cold adds stress, and the longer they have to get some resistance, the better of they should be getting through the winter. That's my thinking, anyway, but I'm not in your situation, so I can't give solid answers.
So far we had a postal delivery person throw our boxes of dog food on the ground near the mail box. Not a thing wrong with the driveway, except under construction at the time. Very passable and not steep. We received our packages from UPS today.. but that *neither wind nor rain* bulltaters from the post office doesn't seem to apply. Although we dug out half our driveway, apparently the USPS driver couldn't deliver our package.... *unsafe* weather conditions.... which means he couldn't drive up and through our driveway into the neighbors drive so he wouldn't have to get his lazy arse out of the car.
UPS driver did. Just sayin.
