If i could find heritage meat raised like I do i would buy them

That is the really really not fun part. Even when it's on a rooster that's a danger to humans.

Happy Sunday morning. Having some coffee with cinnamon rolls left over from yesterday morning.

Anyone here know anything about geese? I would really like a Sebastopol goose. Can I raise it with chicks? Can I house them together? Is 3/4 of an acre enough space? I know, I know....I can Google information but I'd rather hear from my friends

I'm such a softy and could never process any of my chickens. I find I have a hard time even eating chicken now. But...I have so much respect for those of you that can raise birds for meat and process them yourself.

I know someone who keeps geese and ducks with their chickens. I think it’s more you have to have multiple geese. Just like chickens you need more female to male ratio too.

I can’t process my birds either. I’ve skimmed over the posts about doing it. I was hoping they would all die of old age. I agree, total respect for those of you who can.

I used to joke that I could only have a pet snake if it would eat steak. Could someone breed chickens that live 18 months and fall asleep to not wake up?

@rjohns39 do you precook all the mixture or the bacon? What is the liquid you use on it? Thank you!!!

I don't pre-cook it, as I use the cold pack method. I have blanched the beans in one batch, got better color, but softer beans. I use my homemade chicken stock for the liquid. Oh, and I do add a little salt, pepper and red pepper flake to it too.
