Official Squatch Watchers

I read about them to guard the flock....they are territorial and if you want them to protect the flock to get 1. otherwise they bond with geese and don't care about the chickens... sounds cruel to just have one to me though.. ( besides i want to eat the babies:oops:)
 there will be no baby eating going on at my place young lady

I think some of the meat chickens drop dead at around that age but you still need to process them.

ack.. no no no.. when they died of heart failure they are PURPLE and relay nasty looking. :sick:sick:sick:sick:sick.. I had planned on it when the CX I held back for breeding croaked... purple may be my favorite color , but a purple chicken no no NO :sick:sick:sick I couldn't even take a leg off... I didn't even think about the dog though:oops:

When a possum got one of my cockerels and just chewed up its neck, I boiled the bird and fed it back to the rest of my birds. They ate most of it and the outdoor cat and my parents dogs cleaned up the rest.

Haha...I guess I'm still getting alerts. :p

While I grew up with slaughtering chickens, and we had meat chickens when I was first married...I have been caught unprepared for the personalities of the chickens I currently have. So I haven't prepared any for eating.

However, Chewbacca raised a hatch that has turned out to be 100% roosters. They are white with black markings and they all look the same. They also have an extremely wild temperament, there's no settling them down for a nice chicken hug, let's say. :gig

I think that makes the difference for me to be able to consider being able to process them; all have the same look so there are no favourites and a all have a less than desirable temperament. I just bought a brand new hatchet and I plan to use it as soon as it turns warm. They're bantams and it will take one rooster per person to get enough meat. But I'm looking forward to it. I just need Dh to get me a proper block. :)

the cx I had were the sweetest birds and broke my heart to pick them up as they were tugging on my pant leg for treats, to take them to the cone. :hit
their brooder mates br and isa, were not as sweet even though they were handled more.... I don't handle the chicks any more so they are not friendly... the ones raised my a broody are the wildest.. hard to catch but easier for me to 'do the deed'

I did skip a few steps before flouring for frying---
Looked like a crime scene. Frost bitten last bit of his comb was pulled off. Of course bleeds like there is no tomorrow. (If I didn't get it stopped there might not have been) Of course shook his head and splattered it all over the coop, me, the kitchen....
I floured him after quite a while of pinching it to try and stop it. Poor boy.

Morning all :frow

I don't pre-cook it, as I use the cold pack method. I have blanched the beans in one batch, got better color, but softer beans. I use my homemade chicken stock for the liquid. Oh, and I do add a little salt, pepper and red pepper flake to it too.

OK thanks for the info. I'm trying to wrap my head around canning raw bacon in with beans.... :sick

OK this is a mostly :yuckyuck.

The bleeding and frostbite part are not funny but the flouring him is.

I would think 2 would be better. I read that they are very good natured. Never had geese myself.
Geese are mean..they will chase you, the males will.
Ask me...I am terrified of my goose!
