I just had to give one of my Dominique hens a butt fluff cut.

My mom had a feed customer who thought my girl had a prolapse. I caught her and found that it was my Dominique who has a very pendulous bottom. From the looks of it. Her poop has been getting caught in her feathers and she picked a spot bald trying to get it clean. She still had clumps of poop in feathers under her vent that she hadn't gotten around to plucking yet and I had to give her a good trim. I also went ahead and ordered some Blu Kote to spray on her bottom to help the plucking sores heal. Other than that, she seems like a very happy bird. As soon as I let her go, she went and took a vigorous dust bath and started scratching in the dirt.

Must be a dominique thing Hobo has a low hanging booty.

Celery is good, especially if they aren't drinking as much water as they should. Celery would also be good frozen. The best thing is to dice it at a size they will eat, and if you freeze it in a container with some water it would make a nice ice block for summer. Make sure it's only enough water to hold it all together in a block. You can add other types of veggies and fruits that they like to the block as well. A 1 gallon bucket would work, like the I've cream bucket, or a clean ice cream container (though I wouldn't recommend the box cartons). Just run the outside of the bucket under water to loosen it, then plop it out in the run for them. The cardboard containers can just be peeled off. For winter, add celery to their warm, wet food or mash if extra water is needed. It works well. Mine don't need the extra water, but they love celery, so I get the extra water back with poops. I know it's the celery because they have normal poops until after the celery, then it's watery for a couple hours, then back to normal.

I'll have to experiment with the frozen celery block to get it on something that won't make a mess in their pens, since it would be a major hassle to clean up. I'll let y'all know what I come up with someone in July out August when it gets hot enough to make them. Until then, diced on a plate, away from any burners that are on, cuz Lizbeth will jump up on the stove if she thinks I'm taking too long :barnie:he Silly little thing that she is. It's a good thing we only paid $3 For her, cuz a brain surgeon she is not.

You guys. It is 77 freaking degrees here, and sunny. I am getting off this computer --for once, as quick as I hopped on--and going outside and letting my chooks run around in the yard (supervised, of course!) I hope y'all are having great weather too!

I have hatching eggs in the mail from the fabulous @WVduckchick!!!! I am so psyched!! I can't wait to fire up that virgin incubator and do my very first hatch....YAAAASSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!! :wee
Pull it in now to see how it hold temps.
Good luck!

I did they will eat anything
Except what they should. Mine avoid vegetables like the plague. If it has seeds they are happy as could be. Leafy green, NO WAY!

I have a girl with a perpetual dirty butt. It's just how she is. I swear the stuff is like cement though. So once it starts collect you have to trim.
Weird isn't it. I love the ombre effect she gives me, then random artistic flair with the addition of speckles.
