Official Squatch Watchers

Valuable lesson learned. I ordered some chick food from chewy since they have Brown's and I like that brand. I also bought some scratch and peck for the rest so I'd get free shipping. They've never had scratch and peck lol! It was like a prison riot out there! I hope they don't get too used to it though I can't feed them fancy all the time. :)

I need to get this girl a baby or 2. I just don't know if they will be ok in the coop. I don't have a way to seperate them from everyone else...
Get chickens they said.
It will be fun they said.

Now I have a hormonal dinosaur on my hands!
Who is our resident nurse?

I need to know if fever is common with trauma.
Trauma like say a broken arm.

I get 18 forty lb bags..720 lbs... a little over the weight limit of my ford escape.

I was getting a different co-op's that a closer farmer was getting in Indiana and delivering for the same price,, but they butchered the breeder hogs and don't go every month any more. When she goes she gets it for me...
That's really nice of her. I hope your birds appreciate all you do for them.

I wish mine would eat the fermented feed, last time I tried it though I got crazy looks from them and they wouldn't touch it past a discovery peck. Too different I guess.
I haven't tried it. Since they live away from me I think it'd be more of a hassle, plus I can't guarantee that I'd be able to feed them at the same time.

I would say only expect fever if there is infection. However blood pressure may rise with pain. Who broke their arm?

Apparently it is normal. White blood cells release two substances that can cause elevated temps for about the first 48 hrs. It is thought that this helps prevent infection and also increases blood flow and gives a little boost to the healing process.

Basically, unless there is an injury that may get infected, or the fever is high, such as an open fracture or other cuts or scrapes, don't worry for the first 2 days. If it continues past that, call or see the doctor.
