Wayyyyyy off topic, but I sent away for the 23andme testing and got my results today. I'm not mentally prepared to see who the 1083 people that is says are related to me across the USA... But it's super interesting to see the DNA results... it raises so many questions b/c it says there's Native American dna, esp since 1/2 of my family just came to the USA in the 1900's & the farthest I've been able to go back is the late 1600's for those who were here earlier, but haven't seen anyone who was Native American in the line. I am disappointed that it's not showing any relatives in Italy, which is what I really wanted it for, but hopefully as more people use the service it might answer more questions. My gma's family was rather non-communicative about their history. Much of what I've found out is a shock... back in the olden days newspapers were the form of social media and I've found copies archived online that told me of 3 other siblings my gma had that no one knew about, all died in childhood and 2 had a future sibling who was given the same or similar name. Yet no one, even the kids who were alive when the others had died, referred to them in their obituary which means no one in their family knew about the deceased children. Very strange, but maybe that was common then. I mean, the parents must have loved the children dearly, one had a framed photo embedded in her headstone, which one would assume was very expensive in the early 1900's. Just very strange.. of course, the parent's obituaries were very simple & didn't name their parents or much more than their surviving relatives.

Could be! It says CA is on my list of places where people are. I'll check tonight when I'm home. I want to wait til I get home in case there's something super shocking that I'm not prepared for. We found out a couple years ago that my dad has a 1/2 brother from before his dad married my gma that no one told them about until after my gma died... not really sure I'm ready for anything crazy like that.

Crazy story for you then @apryl29

The ex's mom was raised with one of her brothers by an aunt and uncle from their mothers side after their parents where killed. Story was the patents went out for dinner and left the kids with a neighbor lady. When they got home another local man shot and killed the babysitter and both parents. (Ex's mom has a through and through bullet wound. Her mom was holding her when she was shot) All three adults died and the man went on the run. (Caught a few towns away) The oldest son stayed with dads side of the family. The younger two children were sent to live with relatives from the moms side.

Finally in recent years the true story was revealed. The parents had gone out that night to decide what to do. The wife had been having an affair with the husband of a local couple that were friends of theirs. She agreed to end the affair and her lover didn't agree. He was the one who showed up and shot and killed 3 people that night. With a 23&me test done.... Ex's mom has half siblings who's father was the shooter... dun dun dun
Her and her brother were sent away because they were products of the affair!
