WARNING... NOVEL AHEAD
We have a leghorn, Purple Thunder, that was on the way to cullsville until she actually calmed down..... and she is our little escape artist.... we always find her outside of the run.... but when she hears me coming ( I always come out to feed th
em with the call, HI BAYBEEEES!!), wherever she is in the yard, she SPRINTS towards me.... won't let me touch her... but she'll get to me and the sidle up to my side and walk with me to the run. I open the run door for her and she scoots in.
HI all....
@rjohns39 and
@Sassysouth did you know that it's NOT illegal to use your cellphone while driving in Tennessee?!? I truly believed that anything to do with your cell phone was illegal while driving, unless using a hands free device. A local Clarksville TN officer cleared that up for me today.
The Smuvers Micro Farm Fam took a trip into Clarksville..... and we witnessed a car accident. We kind of went on our way... but that made me extremely anxious, so we went back. Although I cited at least 4 different reasons as to why driver #2 was at fault, it seemed like the officer was making excuses as to WHY he couldn't SAY it was drivers #2s fault... INCLUDING the *fact* that #2 being on his cell phone wasn't illegal, so he wasn't immediately *at fault*.....so, I gave the police my info... but I ALSO gave my info to driver #1.... just in case.
A few months ago we joined the Arbor Day Foundation. With a donation, they said they were going to send us some trees and a couple bushes. Well, they arrived yesterday. What we received was 10 sticks and 2 twigs...

So, today we made a trip into town to Lowes to pick up grow pots. Big enough to get the trees to start to root... but not so big that the sticks would get lost in the pot(s). Although we already have decided on where we want to PLANT the trees... we honestly have NO idea where we're going to put the sticks and twigs pots for them to take root! We have a back deck, yet it is already full with a table and chairs, 2 grills and other miscellaneous growing stuff. STDH wants to put them right next to the railing ON the front porch, where I personally don't think they'd get enough sunlight... and would more than likely miss out on any rain showers. Plus, I'm not too sure I'd wanna try and move a TREE off of my porch!

We're also unsure on whether we need to keep them potted over winter, or go ahead and move them into their designated spots before the first frost. I believe I read somewhere that for some fruit trees, that that was the best time to plant trees, cause it let the roots grow and take hold while the tree didn't have to *waste energy* producing fruit. These aren't fruit trees, but wouldn't the same reasoning apply?
We have moved the 8 wild, white and black (and 1 grey) barnyard mix arseholes, the survivors from our last *viable* egg hatching, into a hoop coop tonight so that they may join the rest of the flock in the run tomorrow. We're planning on scrubbing the prefab coop out top to bottom in the morning, and then putting the Quack Attack out in there with their temporary plastic swimming pool. Although 3 of them are named, STDH likes to refer to them as Stinky, Stanky, Stunky, Stunkski, Skunky and Lemon Drop. Yeah, they have currently shited up the main bathroom SO bad, it makes me roll with laughter.... especially since IT IS STILL A SHOCK TO THE STDH that the ducks are dirty/messy creatures.... ROTFLMAO The last 2 days he's been off work, and I ask him every hour or so if he's checked on the ducks. He's like, YES.... I just checked on them!!!... and I make him go look again... and each time he is upset/amused that their water is brown and full of food, and their food dish is wet or empty. Hell, one of the G300 hens somehow shot a mouthful of wet fermented food at LEAST a good 4 feet up the wall.....
The 3 named are, Lemon Drop, who is the PICs pekin. The drake 300 hybrid is Dusty, and the smallest mallard/rouen we've named Apple.
Now.... question... there is a VERY noticeable size difference betwixt Apple and the other rouen/mallard. Could this mean one is a hen and one a drake? I'm curious because you can tell the G300 hybrids sizes are VERY different between the drake and the 2 hens, with the drake probably a good 20-25% smaller than they are.
Signed PIC up for summer camp and swim lessons. Guess I;ll teach him how to NOT drown before we install the duck pond(s).
Since the STDH will be in the field starting Monday, and won't be back until the 16th, he wouldn't be here for Mothers Day... so *we* celebrated it Friday. My breakfast in bed consisted of getting up early and getting to the vehicle licensing office, first in line. Got safety inspected... however, my break lights don't work when the headlights are on.. another whackadoodle issue with Fizzgig (what I named the Kia).... but she passed us anyway with the promise we'd get it taken care of ASAP. I absolutely reassured her 10 ways until Sunday. Hell, the PIC rides in that car, and I WILL NOT get rear ended one night down our NO POSTED SPEED LIMIT road cause of my break lights.
Since we were right next door, we decided to hit up the drivers license office. Waited just a bit, and I believe I made this woman's day. First she asked for the items I would need to get my license. Copy of your license? yup. Proof of address? Will mortgage papers work? Yup. Social security card? Well no, I don't have that on me and not quite sure where it is. Points me in the direction of the SS office, and I get up to leave. That's when STDH clears his throat and says, Shouldn't you check and SEE if you can even renew your license?! Lady kiiiinda looks quizzical...... and then I put my TN drivers license down on the counter and slid it across to her.... and said yeah... well... this technically is expired..... in 2010.
My squatchy frands, she laughed SO HARD it made the other 2 clerks look over at her like she had lost it. Now, as it is in TX and other states, a military person and their spouse MAY drive legally on an expired drivers license AS LONG AS the member is still active duty. With STDH retiring the beginning of September, it would be a VERY good idea to get LEGAL legal. Now, she understood the rules that yes, I CAN still drive on an expired license.... she just lost it since it's been 8 YEARS!!! No worries though. As soon as I come back, she'll use the expiration date on my military ID as my DL expiration date, take a photo, do the eye test and BAM! Street Legal Smuvy!!! vroomvroom!!
Anyway, it was *Mothers Day*, I didn't feel like spending my day running around looking for paperwork or getting more paperwork, etc etc..... SO, off to the registration office we go.
Now, with me not having a technically legal/illegal DL, we weren't quite sure if we'd be able to register Fizzgig in my name. But, no muss no fuss, whizz bang and Fizzgig is now street legal again!
As this was a planned *Mothers Day*, I had already ordered my gifts for me. STDH isn't a gift giver. He is a *you want it, buy it. Why wait for me* kind of person. Irksome at times, but meh. I have made peace with it. The ONLY time I wanna be pampered and stuff is on Mothers Day, because I assume the STDH would wanna help the PIC out with getting me great gifts and brunch in bed etc etc... nope. I pretty much just do everything, and STDH falls back on his old standby for brunch... steak and eggs. Dinner? Steak and steamed broccoli. Seriously my sweets, these are 2 meals I could have every day of the week. How about branching out just a weeeee bit and find a recipe of something...!
I decided I wanted lobster and scallops... but finding either where I am was impossible... so I have some shipped from Maine overnight.
Here's Maynard

He came with a lb of sea scallops. I par boiled Maynard. I disassembled Maynard. I chopped and diced and cooked the bacon, scallions and mushrooms for the sauce for Maynard. I added the cream to the sauce for Maynard. I reduced the sauce a bit, and then added in chopped up pieces of Maynard so he'd finish cooking. I then grated a good 1/2 cup of hard Parmesan cheese to add to the sauce with Maynard. Salt and pepper and a smack of chipotle powder to finish and make the Maynard sauce POP!
Boiled a lb of gluten free pasta, added to the Maynard sauce, and then ate until I could no longer breathe! Eyes rolled back, ate and ate and ate... and still have leftovers.
This was brunch.

My Momma gifts came in from Amazon. I had ordered a Nintendo 3DS hard case for my 3DS, with a killer skeleton on it... really demonic looking. And I got a 3DS carrying case that fits 16 games!
Why yes... yes I AM a 12 year old kid!!!

My *last* gift will be here Tuesday, which is a new MP3 player with bluetooth, so I can wear wireless headphones.
OH, and for my MD dinner, STDH made steak with sauteed onions and mushrooms.... aaaaand steamed broccoli. He did up some of the scallops and wrapped them in bacon, and then proceeded to put them on the grill. Now, he has NEVER cooked shellfish ever ever ever..... and has never seen a raw scallop up close.... so, after timing each scallop for 1.5 minutes on each side on the grill, he brought them inside, proudly showing off dem sexay grill marks..... sexay grill marks on raw as hell scallops!
I quickly heated up a pan and cooked them off... and showed him how the raw ones look opaque (we learned a new word today!) and cooked looks white. We served them with a spicy garlic sriracha aioli and they were marvelous!
Pretty sure I've updated as much as I can for now. Lots of super duper hugs, kisses, belly raspberries and dutch ovens for those who like that kinda thing!!!
