I had a bit of a heart attack yesterday. I thought something might have happened to my white leghorn broody.

She's alright, she's just plucking and lining her nest with her feathers.

I have 5 babies hatching for her right now. 2 external pips, 3 internal.

How did that happen? None of my hens are Mauve.

The rooster must be?

I was sitting on the porch just having my coffee and I heard a bang, so i'm like wtf and start looking. I had sat an egg on a table and forgot about it but obviously it didn't forget about me. Oh man thats a nasty smell!:sick

Nope. He's a dark, shiny chocolate. The chance of another rooster getting into the mix is almost 0%. These birds are in an enclosed run over 200 ft away from any of my other birds. Plus, any of my birds that have "blue" are feather legged and this guy isn't.

I’m not sure then. But my chocolate chicks were always deep dark brown, from day 1. The ones that hatched pale were either mauve or splash

I suppose he could be another mix from my mixed flock egg, but I have no idea what mix he could be. We'll see as he gets older. Maybe the like the cockerel comes from a line that hatches lighter?

I have 5 eggs hatching now. Several of them are DEFINITELY from the girls I bought from you. The eggs are nicely speckled.
