Official Squatch Watchers

I always hear that about B cochins ......but mine easily lay 5 times a week during laying season. Mine are very good reliable layers. My D'ucclle lays really good sized eggs 5 days a week also. Her eggs are the size of a grocery store large egg....poor girl.....ouch!
ya got lucky thier production sucks and they are so dam pretty

That is the problem with averages. Some breeds go a long time not laying eggs. Cocchins because they are a broody breed. Others just stop laying some times.

The average is over a year. The best layers get 5 eggs a week and usually they lay almost every day during the first laying season. The second year will be less and many do not lay any eggs in the winter without supplemental light.

Chickens are amazing!
Hell mine isn’t even broody. My Cochin polish mix is the only broody girl I have. I can’t even let her hatch right now because my selection is so poor

You know if you just have hens for enjoyment mostly how many eggs do you really need anyway? I'd way rather have nice, happy, long living sparse layers than mean little egg machines that are going to peter out pretty fast and not be pleasant to keep.:)
I have chickens for the eggs and fresh food mostly. I do have some girls that will never go anywhere because they are my favorite. Basically if they have a name they have protection it they don’t then who knows. We eat a lot of eggs

Poor Egret. I've never seen a chicken with so few wing feathers. 20181115_155245.jpg 20181115_155217.jpg 20181115_155134.jpg

I am quitting selling too.
To much hassle for me. I want to dwindle my flock some too.
I wont sell any and don't plan to process so it's going to take a while.
:p
Having less hens and pressure to sell eggs really lessens the work load!
