Official Squatch Watchers

You guys both amaze me! I'd lose what's left of my mind selecting breeders. Here I just pop out the door and holler "get to it Negan chick time!" and iv'e selected mine. I'm waaay too indecisive and nitpicky to be selecting breeders, they'd die of old age before I decided.:gig
:yuckyuck I think Rae and I follow a similar approach, we select our breeders in late winter/early spring, then the rest go to the bachelor pad until the weather is decent for processing. I always miss a few late bloomers, but really hope the number isn't much bigger than that...

I already sent 16 LF Dark Cornish cockerels for processing I probably have 10 more I think I'll do some selection of breeders in the next month or two and maybe try selling the rest. People are willing to drive some LONG distances and pay good money for good LF Darks.

When I sent that batch to be butchered, I mainly selected on three things for the Cornish. One, thickness of the legs, the thicker the better. Two, Body width (wider the better). Three tail set, low and sloped down from the back is best. You can see those things in the pictures of this bird.

Pullets, I'll be selecting for the same things + the color and clarity of their lacing.
This girl's lacing is beautiful, but her coloring is too light. I might keep her as a layer or sell her as pet quality or someone who wants to improve their lacing.

She may be really light but she is really pretty too.

Ok, this "I gotta be by the door" thing Negan has going on is ridiculous! I got a big fat rooster toe in the ear from him jumping on me trying to bypass Hobo to roost next to the door. Says alot when he'll jab the food lady to bypass a scrawny mean hen just to roost near the door so he can be a "man" if he has to. My boy's logic is flawed, but his common sense is intact. I'm way less scary. :gig

And Rene, lol I worry about that girl. Sallie and her sleep together, a couple nights Sallie slept with Ethel and Dutch due to Rene being mean. Tonight Sallie came back, her butt in Rene's face Rene's in hers were how they roosted. Rene starts pecking Sallie's butt so I put my hand in between to scoot meanie over and she bites me! Yeah, grabbed some knuckle skin and shook!....omg what? I kept scooting! Little butterball pushes into my hand like she's going to move me, really puts her whole stumpy little body into it making that angry little grunty noise. By this time i'm about to pass out laughing. What in the world have I raised ya'll? :lau

I haven't updated on Glayds in a while. Worried I'll jinx it.

She's standing. Well, as much as Glayds can stand. I know it doesn't look like much but for a little while she wouldn't even lift herself off her legs. I know she won't ever be a normal chicken again. I really thought about culling her. But she seems ok mentally. She talks and happily splattered me with some applesauce earlier. She's eating like a champ and pooping like one too. If I thought she was depressed I'd end it for her but she really acts like a chicken.

You can't really hear them if they are in the coop. Sorta "Did I hear a rooster? No. Must not have."
Outside Pat's voice definitely carries. I was laughing today cause he had a morning practice session. He must have yelled "F__k it!" a dozen times in less then 10 min. Luckily the other boys didn't feel the need to show him how it's done. I don't think I've ever heard Jr crow. It's mostly the white OE. Sometimes the black OE will throw one in. Then Pat..."F__ck it!"
If the neighbors complain I think I'll tell them Pat has tourettes and can't help it.
:lau :love
