Official Squatch Watchers

Rene is just a brat, no better way to put it. She's fine until I have to impose my wishes on her, like wishing she'd not bite her sister's butt. If things go completely her way she's precious. If there aren't butts to bite she shuffles down into a little ball, I rub her beard she kind of purrs and I shut the door. I feel bad she sleeps alone, she's so cute it is hard not to totally her choice though. :idunno
Jackie does the same thing. She's always roosted on the lower roost that's near the door while most everyone else is in various places along the back wall roost & poop board. Sometimes she has someone with her on the side, but not usually. But last night I was in counting and she wasn't in her usual spot, then I found her roosting up on the back wall w/ everyone else. I always thought it was b/c she is heavier (dual purpose bird), but apparently not. IDK what caused her to go up there, but I was surprised.

Yay! The joys of featherd feet! I'm getting everyone up for bed and no Tucks! I finally find her under the steps standing flamingo style just dripping blood. Of course I freak. I pull her foot out straight count toes all toes are present and accounted for. I seperate foot feathers, two broken blood feathers. Brought her in, washed her foot and belly, pulled out the quills and applied some alum. She's on the roost now much happier and smelling like tangerines "we have tangerine soap." This is the second time iv'e had to do this for Tucks, i'm starting to think those people who put shoes on their chickens are misunderstood geniuses.:caf

I fell yesterday and hurt my knee. Foot got snagged in the gate and down i went. And i have an ear infection.
Ouch! Hope you're doing better & found your ear meds. My oldest seems to get those kind of ear infections. They are not fun, but it seems like the drops work fast.

The guys had to head out early to a big crash on I25.
They just showed the mess on the news. :th

I am very glad to see they have a "crash truck" and BIG fire truck blocking traffic from running the tow drivers over.

I worry about them every time they have to be on the interstate.

A crash truck is a state owned truck used in construction zones designed to withstand an impact from behind. For those not familiar with that term. I figure different places call them different things.
That sure is scary work. We had a story out this way a few years ago where the same thing happened. Road workers & tow drivers have really dangerous jobs, esp w/ all the idiot drivers out there not paying attention... Just look at all those kids getting hit by buses lately (not that it's new, just people are talking about it more now).
I saw one of those crash trucks for the first time last week. I didn't know they were a thing, but it makes sense. Once I had to take my brother some gas on the turnpike and a safety vehicle pulled up behind us with lights on it to see if we were ok and waited til we left so no one would hit us. It was really nice that they have that type of thing... years ago my ex and I ran out of gas on the turnpike and a state trooper just drove right past us. Fortunately we had cell phones by that time & someone came out and towed us (b/c my ex refused to believe that it could just be that the car ran out of gas...).

@Suzi18 did you get the medicine done?
My syringes came with needles that just slip off, so hopefully you can find some like this, draw it out of the vial using the needle, then remove the needle to give it to her orally.

Absolutely true.

Sometimes people forget that tow truck drivers are the ones removing the blood soaked cars with childrens things inside.
That is the hardest to deal with.

Sadly it happens way to often.

I have gone to assist with water recoveries and a couple fatals. It sticks with one for a very very long time.

The city recently started reminding people that tow trucks ARE emergency response vehicles and to move over for them.

It takes a special breed of human to do those jobs.

Oh No! Did you get the insurance straightened out?

Large fowl do better with 2x4s for roosts turned flat so that they can get the whole 4 inches. It is hard for them to grab on to round roosts so they rest their keel on the curve. This puts a dent in the keel that is not good for showing and hurts them.

So, today has been interesting. Yesterday, my manager saw that I may not be able to use all my holiday hours which I would lose at the end of the year. So he worked it so I can have today and tomorrow off. So, since I won’t need his help watching the Milk Drinker while I work, DH is taking MIL up to PA to visit her mother today and coming back tomorrow. My MIL originally suggested that the Milk Drinker and I go with them. I don’t think I would do well on a turnaround trip like that right now. A 3 hour drive is hard on me now. Then she suggested that they take the Milk Drinker with them. Um, no.

That's what the roost on the side is made from. I thought the branch roost might be too small for some of the bigger birds, plus I needed more space when they got bigger. I felt bad bc she was alone in the cold nights, but I guess it's just her choice.
