Official Squatch Watchers

we have mallards, khaki campells and a couple mixes
i ordered a straight run i was hoping to cull but never got to it.
Never too late to cull. You can eat birds that are over a year old. You just boil them and cut the meat across the grain of the muscle so that it isn't stringy. They make WONDERFUL tasting bone broth and stock, especially if you boil the feet with the stock.

Another option is using the meat as dog food and making stock from the bones. After I make stock (which means simmering the bones at least 3-4 times overnight with a little vinegar) I run the bones through my handcrank meat grinder (which turns it to mush) and feed that to my pigs and chickens. Its a great source of calcium.

Hi my name is Ellie I am currently in high school. I live in a small town. I have 2 polish hens a lot of Roos and 15 RIR hens and a lot of Roos. My sister has about 10 ducks. My family owns a local trucking and dirt business. I am in 4-h and ffa. I am the youngest but I have 4 nephews and 1 niece. I love duck and deer hunting. My grandma lives across our hay field or around the corner. She has 2 pastures close to her house for our horses we don’t ride though. She also has a cattle bar where we currently have about 45 head of black angus Hereford cross. She has a yellow Labrador and we have a German wire hair.

Well I guess that’s all about me have any questions just ask.

:woot
4-H AND FFA!!

Nice to meet you!

I think it's great you get to have such a diverse experience in life.

I am glad you get to have your grandma so close by.

It sounds like you have a very busy life and rich in variety too. That's pretty dang awesome!

It is also better for your girls if you have less than 1 rooster/cockerel for every 10 hens/pullets. I have more than that number ratio, but I put 10 of my cockerels/roosters in a bachelor pad so they don't wear the girls raw on their backs.

The first culled boys are any that are excessively mean to the other cockerels. Little pecking order spats are to be expected but not getting beaten after they back off.

Ok I may need a nap cause this was WAY to funny!
That was great!

Well I make the 3rd Squatcher to get injured! We can all stop now.
It doesn't look bad but it REAAALLLLY hurt. I was changing my shoes to go out and lost my balance standing on one foot. I learned towards the wall and put my hand out to catch myself. Except as luck would have it I slipped my finger into the open door then slammed it shut with my body weight. ON my fingers!
OUCH! We need to get you guys all bubble wrapped. How are you feeling today?

Well, today has been an inside day which was good I had alot of crap iv'e been putting off simply because I didn't want to do it. Turning into my mom, sticking gifts in bags instead of wrapping and passing off publix cookies as my own. I bought the cookies so technically they're mine. Anyway, it has been raining and my yard has been full of deer so that kept me house bound. Also hades has frozen over, MIL gave me fifty dollars for christmas.:th
Gift bags aren't lazy. They're better for the environment and can be reused. I make bags from wrapping paper for odd sized items that are hard to wrap, like shoes or stuffed animals. I used it this year to wrap my kids' boots. (I just tape the top flap down instead of using the hole punch b/c I'd have to FIND the hole punch.

Yes! It look like genetic deformity to some so they cull not realizing that it came from using a round roost
Odin was sleeping on the edge of the nesting boxes before I got the roost up. He had a limp for a long time, but eventually got better.

I hope it gets straightened out!

My DW went to an orthopedics doc yesterday to get a cortisone shot in her knee. He said She has 3 to 5 years until knee replacement and there is nothing else but the cortisone shot to do until then
There is something else, though I'm not sure if they're limited in when they can use it. The orthopedic surgeon told my mom about it when she got her hip replacement. Not sure if she ever got it b/c her other dr told her he didn't want her getting any additional treatments until her hip had healed completely and she had corrected her walking.

Oh, and i just killed possum #7 & #8 tonight in the hoop coop.
I hope it's not that other people aren't doing the catch and release thing and dumping them by you.

The weird thing is this girl started almost exactly a year ago during her first heavy molt and has been sneezing ever since. Maybe she us a Tourette's sneezer
Olive sneezes periodically. I worried at first, but since it's not often I figure it's just coop dust. Have you look up in her nose? Maybe she has something stuck up there. I've used a qtip dipped in water to wipe dirt away from their noses. Sometimes when they're flopping around doing a dust bath the get dirt up there.
:th I know where I fall lol
I love your turkey photo.

Ok, don't think I'm a bad or uncaring person. Yesterday DD#2 had a dentist appt and took meds to calm down, i.e., sedation. I decided to let her go down the stairs to the garage first, that way, my monkey brain figured, when she falls down the stairs, she won't take me with her. Well, she fell down the stairs, looking kinda like an octopus sliding down a ramp head first. She slid in to a mattress at the bottom, then her feet flopped over and she was laying flat on her back looking at the ceiling. I'm not totally crude, I didn't laugh about the whole octopus look for several hours, I did check to make sure she was ok, nothing broken or bleeding, etc., then took her to her appt, where she promptly fell up the steps. After the appt, we went to one of the batteries in the area and I took a nap while we waited till she could walk straight so we could go in without knocking anything over. She's bruised and sore, but she did get a good laugh about the description of her going down the stairs.

:oops::oops::oops::oops:
I'm proud of you for waiting til hours later to laugh at her. I would have been laughing as soon as she was found to be ok at the bottom of the steps. Next time instead of walking down the stairs have her sit and butt scoot down the steps, and crawl up the steps. It's more gross when it's in a public place, but you could always have her wear gloves on her hands so they don't get so gross.

Well good to know im not lazy and I am being very, very, environmentally friendly because im using bags from last year lol! I don't know, just really does not feel like Christmas for whatever reason. Everybody says it is so im going through the motions anyway.:)
That was great!
