Too right. Dogs are incredibly expensive.

(I'm really only saying that to convince myself not to be stupid and go get a parrot just because I want one... shh)
I have a dog that has a personal vendetta against all feathered things. I didn't want her, but everyone else did, so we got her. Because of that, and how busy life gets sometimes, I suspect I'd end up not paying the poor thing near enough attention. :( Don't want to get something that lives nearly as long as a human if it's going to be lonely for most of it, until the kids go off to college and the dog dies.
 
I had a good laugh the other day. A friend stopped over while I was work and put solar panels on my coop. Ran some wires so I have a battery and can run some small lights. The flock gave him the full dinosaur encounter. :lau
He came out after and showed me what he did and what I need to know.
We walk into the coop and they all hop off the roosts and run right over to me. I swear I heard :eek:! "They definitely didn't do that for me."
I guess the boys mostly growled and made threatening noises. :rant
What can I say they know who brings the food.

We all know our own family's needs. Dylan is the pet I got instead of another dog. My favorite dog I ever had killed 2 parrot chicks before she learned the rules. Dylan says, "Later", when she sees me getting ready to go out. She goes in her cage when I say, "Go Back". I know that she does not want me to go, but she accepts the reality of life in our family. When I come home, she says, "Come here", and I let her out. No jumping for joy like a dog, but I know she is glad I am back.

Birds are at least as intelligent as dogs, I believe. Dogs would attack a stranger.
