well it ate my quotes.. but hugs for everyone that had losses :hugs:hugs :hit it's hard when they are pets.. Hard on anyone when you have to put on down or a predator is involved... 2x I had a chicken get left out. :oops:
2x a stupid turkey got in the trees and stayed out :rant I was lucky all times

one coop of 20 hens gave me 3 eggs today, had been 2 for the last couple of weeks.
the other 2 coops are in the same run and are swapping where they lay, but 9 eggs out of 35+ hens there today. Had been 4 for the last couple of weeks.. well about a week before the solstice is when the eggs slowed way down. I have been eating frozen eggs so I have a few for my egg customers :sick still better than store bought, "non-chickey" eggs :gigI put 12 dz eggs in the freezer last spring when I had a glut of them. Glad I did.
It was in the 50f today, so I processed the boys that should have been done 11-30 :oops: I kept one that may be a meat breeder. Another one is in there from spring. Need a couple of backups ya know.
move 2 more in the bachelor pad that are due 1-30, left one potential breeder in the main coop. I like having 2 roos in that coop with all those girls. If something happens to the main roo the turkeys are already used to the spare. They don't take kindly to new chickens.

my internet was down because they were working on phone lines in town because of someone wiping out after NYE. My cell phone was down and I got a new one. Both happened Jan 1st :rant so much catching up to do on byc

For once, I actually don't have any extra males I'm procrastinating on doing in. If anything, I don't have enough. :th I lost my only Partridge male to wry neck... gonna need a new one.

Chantecler, yes. They're not too rare right now. The nationals got a really nice spread these past few years. Some of them are still rare---for instance, I'm possibly the only one in my area with Buff bantams---but the whites and Partridge are growing in popularity.

And this is one reason I still have 10 Cornish cockerels. I hate the thought of losing my breeder. I should probably whittle it down to 3-4.
