Everyone survived. Heater is still going and I didn't use up all the oil in them. I turned them up just a hair.
Currently -5° outside. -29° with wind but the coop is almost 2°.
Do the birds seem like they even care?I checked, watered and fed the 3 coops with layers.... the first coop no one drank so I moved the iced over water to the 3rd incase someone there was in need, they ignored it. I'll switch it later when I get to the bachelor pad.
The main coop has a dollar store thermometer. -10f no heat in a tarp covered hoop coop..
-22f in town
LOL, Right? Real life, like they probably talked outside BYC, but nope (for the most part)... Just a big group of really friendly Sanity Savers."It kinda seemed like everyone knew-knew each other, like in real life."

. the roo in the first pen and in the bachelor pen got frost bite when we had freezing rain and the temps dropped. They look unhappy.Do the birds seem like they even care?

.. I need to cut off the bottom of the doors this spring. Hadn't been a problem before. I just made sure the run bedding was not near the door. But the ground heaved more this year. and with the freezing rain everything froze down.. I may have to get the pick out and break that up... hopefully it will work until this weekend when it gets above freezing... of course it's going to rain
That freezing rain is the worst. Snow/ ice/ snow... so you risk falling on your butt w/ every step. Hopefully those boys learn to snuggle up. I've been chiseling poop too. Then when it pops free everyone runs after it like I threw down a treat and I'm yelling at them IT'S JUST POOP! DON'T EAT IT! I've got a ridge by the door so the bottom doesn't close right anymore, I tried to scrape it off, but failed & gave up. Door is closed & locked and that's all that matters right now. All that can wait til it's above freezing.. but you know that just means it's going to be raining.the roo in the first pen and in the bachelor pen got frost bite when we had freezing rain and the temps dropped. They look unhappy.
Another coop everyone looks happy so far, but that roo has a small comb.
The main coop has a 4x4 dog house and it is packed with roos and layers... they look ok... turkeys wanted to go out but I shut the door on them.. Because yesterday there was a new laying cx mix that had to troop through the snow to a dog house to lay her little egg.
I left all the doors shut, between the cold and them pooping where it freezes and the door hits it and doesn't want to shut.. I need to cut off the bottom of the doors this spring. This is the only downfall to house chicken, she's nosy and she's warm so chicken panting is all in my ear.View attachment 1658246
