Official Squatch Watchers

You know i'm going to candle, my luck is way too bad to risk hot bad eggs for three weeks. Fingers crossed here for girls too! I really, really, really don't want to hustle roosters again.:gig
I know that's not meant to be dirty, but it made me lol.

Wow! Fingers cross for lots of females. It's nice that he's ok w/ hatching extras. Can't wait to see all your bitty babies. Are you going to candle or just wait for the magic to happen?

When I first saw the little pic I thought they were actual chicks! W/ everyone setting eggs I got all excited. They look really good!

If his wife said to buy it, I would assume that's a yes. I'll have to hit them up this weekend and see if they have any at the Aldi's by me.

If they're metal you could use a magnet... I dropped a screw in the coop and was worried that someone had eaten it. I couldn't feel anything in her crop so I found the big magnet.. it had gotten buried in the pdz on the poop board. SMH.
Harbor freight has this one w a long handle.

At first I was like $30! That's a lot... then I remember I spent that much on 4 chicks... and 2 ended up being boys. At least this way you'd know what you were getting into. Although in my case I needed chicks for my broody & I didn't care all too much about what kind they were.

Wow, glad you didn't get cooked. We had a small fry daddy many many years ago and my ex plugged it in, but forgot to take the lid off. The plastic lid melted. It was not a good time.

Wow, at least they're willing to work with you. That had all the makings of a horror story. You would have thought that the bank or the place you're buying the homes from would have known about all of this and told you to contact people before you signed the papers.

They make fake salt stuff. Tastes like salt, but isn't salt.. https://www.walmart.com/ip/NoSalt-Original-Sodium-Free-Salt-Alternative-11-oz/37233033 thought it probably has it's own special side effects, like sugar substitutes.

That's such a nice story! My monsters see me and immediately think She might have food, attack!

I finished processing the 2 overdue cockerels yesterday. So last night moved some birds around for breeding and relieve overcrowding.
This morning a coop I had moved a new boy into and taken 2 hens out of.... had a dying hen. Of course I initially blamed the new roo, but she is light, and water belly. She is a white cx mix and I think she was from 2017.... so far they have started popping off at 18 months from heart conditions. I am sad that she died, but I was expecting a couple to go... last 2 days were in the 50's and they seem to pop off with the the temp swings in the spring. Last year I lost 6 in the spring.
Since the white cx mix seem to have issues, while the barred and black don't, I am using 2 barred boys this year.. I have 2 white boys as backups.
So I am down to 51 hens .... I think :idunno

I need help. My cochin bantam Is not acting right. Crop is empty but crop area feels like its squishy and puffy. Com.b is red and has been acting fine til today. On layer feed with oyster shells and fruit always available
That's kind of how Klaus' crop was. Have you tried just giving a little massage? You might check her nostrils and see if they're clear. I had to pick a couple chicken noses last week. Also check her vent to see if there's any redness. Klaus had that too. I ended up giving her the monistat orally for a few days before it all went away.

Oh, and because of all the popped panels (over a dozen of them) our final walk through of the single wide got postponed to next week until they can get the intact panels reattached. The damage from moving was way worse than they usually see. I think because it has been sitting on the lot for so long.
It could have also been from the traveling if they had to go through a lot of bumpy roads. IDK how things are where you live, but the winter does terrible things to our roads. they're 64% potholes right now.
