Official Squatch Watchers

Lol! I may be awake when I let mine out but it ain't pretty! I too am in my jammies, crocks, hair a mess, old torn up hoodie, feed bucket, 2 water jugs, and a scoop of scratch. Yup my hands are FULL! My screen door slams every time. :gig
Love that sound...

So, glad I am not ignoring you anymore. Any other ways to get it in her. She won’t drink it. I keep having to dip her beak it.
Try the sugar but often they will not drink it at first because the cysts are hurting them.

Keep dipping the beak and she should start drinking it tomorrow

When I lived on the eastern shore of Maryland it was chicken trucks all day everyday. It’s purdue country there.
When my son Nick was in first grade he gave it a lot of thought.
Almost everyone in our neighborhood either worked at Purdue or for purdue.

One night when he was getting ready for bed he told me there were two kinds of chickens.

“The walkin’ kind and the eatin’ kind. The walkin’ kind is the happy kind.
We should get some of the walkin’ kind some day mom.”

He would be so tickled that I finally did it.

:hugs X a billion.
Hang onto the good memories.

Maybe she thinks at a higher level. Is there anything you could put in the coop for her to play with?
My girls have a xylophone and I do hear them rap it occasionally. Someone likes to tap the trashcan that their food gets put away in at night.

I tell DH if I ever see a steel drum at a yard sale, like the kind in a reggae band, I don’t care how much it costs- I’m buying that sucker.
I’ll have to look for an old xylophone. I can’t wait for warm weather so I can work out there and make it the coop I want. She has claimed the ladder as hers. I had it out there to do work and it’s her favorite roosting spot.

@Sassysouth This is what I did with Gurtrude when she really wasn't wanting to eat. She dropped close to 2 lbs, and has gained a good chunk of it back.

Take a jar or one of those pouches of baby food in any flavor that chickens can have and mix it with ground up feed that you want her to have. If you can, get it to the consistency where you can roll it in to small balls, it works better. Once that is done, plop her on your lap, love on her and talk to her, and make sure you have a small, marble sized ball of the food in your dominant hand between your fingers. Make sure she is comfortably held down with your other arm, and using that hand, cover her eyes every so often in a way that will let you open her beak. Don't force anything, and be patient, she will relax and you'll get her to open her mouth. When that happens, use a finger in the other hand to hold her mouth open and put the food in the very back of her mouth where she can't spit it out. Don't get frustrated, it takes practice. Whatever you get in her the first few times is good. As you get better with this method, you can start filling her crop once daily, preferably right before bed so that she gets the extra for overnight calories. During the day let her eat her normal food. As she gains weight back she should start eating better because she'll feel much better. I would also suggest giving her some probiotics, I have the HEN BOOST brand, which I like a lot. It's mixed with the water.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Morning everyone.

I love my alarm lol. :lau

For the last week or so we have had "middle of the night alley activity". :hmm
It has been a pair of fox making rounds.
You guessed it. Every dog in the area gets triggered.
Nothing says get out of bed quite like a hound dog going from asleep to full bay on the bed. :gig:gig:gig

It is fine. We knew going into having a hound this was what to expect.

No worries on the chickens. They are all locked in their houses.
