I would remove Miss May if possible. I would be worried about squished chicks too.
That was what I needed to know. This is the first time I have had chicks this tiny with the adults.
Kinda trying to keep a close watch on them special little babies.

That is a tough oneI have a potential problem......
Bitty out herself and the kids in the bottom left nest......Miss May (think gigantic bird) has crammed herself in there too.
I am worried a kid will be suffocated or crushed.
Should I get her out of there, leave her in there or move Bitty and the kids?
Can you tell where the kids are? Close to one side or right in the middle between the ladies?Nevermind. I defer to Old HenThat is a tough oneCan you tell where the kids are? Close to one side or right in the middle between the ladies?

....it's a small nest box.

Good call!I couldn't see them........it's a small nest box.
I went out and fished around. One kid was not able to get under mom cause it was so cramped. I pulled May and she headed right back in.
I pulled Bitty and both kids out. They settled right down in the shavings.
We are going to be cold tonight. I feel better KNOWING they are fully under mom.
I think you know I'm extremely over cautious. I never want something to have died and it was my fault so I try to over tweak everything. I'm a helicopter mom to my young birds.I couldn't see them........it's a small nest box.

Plus last year I had the big silver laced Cochin hen hatch out a single chick which she promptly squished it's first night, so I know those big cochins don't always have the brains to move their legs.
Now I know. Glad you got someone out.![]()

And a couple of Russian Orloffs for good measure.
