It’s bad when this is going around Facebook. LOL
 
Maybe a French drain running downhill at hardpan level. If you're feeling really energetic, dig trenches at an angle across the run, making sure to dig in to the hardpan so that you can run a French drain in it, then cover with gravel and dirt. Make sure the ditch is deeper on the side you want the water to drain toward. If you want you can run another one in a ditch downhill to drain it further from the coop and run. Obviously, this it's better done in dry weather, but if the hardpan in easier to work with when wet, galloshes and a rain coat would be necessary.

So there is a layer of dirt then impenetrable clay. I think that’s why it gets soooo soggy. The clay is wet then there is no place for any more water to go. I had to scrape it off the shovel. I understand all to well the difficulty of dealing with clay. :hugs
Horrible to deal with when soaked due to slipping hazard and impossible to dig when dry.

I am hoping it dries enough to be not slippery but still able to dig.

When ours dries it cracks wide enough to lose a Volkswagen into.
