I'm sorry Henny, I know that feeling. We were lucky to have the money and a vet to do the surgery, but I know we were the exception. It's not an option for the majority, and it isn't an easy decision. If you want to drain her abdomen and see how long it takes before it's full again, it might be worth a try. Another thing you can do is see about depo-provera. That's what we were giving Gurtrude to keep her from releasing yolks. That would be every 3 to 4 weeks, but between that and draining her abdomen you might be able to give her a good quality of life, especially if she's wanting to live. Just throwing out some options. With the birth control and draining, she may be able to get another year or more. She would get used to the routine as well. The vet may allow you to purchase a whole vial of depo, then you could give it at home. They could teach you how to do it in the office and then you could just treat her at home.

I can try draining her but don't have funds for big vet bills. To many human doctor bills and no insurance. :tongue

The only vets that will see to treat a bird are parrot only vets. :hmm
I asked if they would treat a chicken and I got the "click" that says no.
The other option is the CSU vet school......yeah there is a gigantic waiting list.
My vet that sees the dogs will do fecal floats and euthanize but that is it.

Iv'e done it. They don't like it but they'll not deny you.
