Chooky im trying to de-slutify a butta-fly....butta-fly lol! :lau

THANK YOU! I knew there had to be a correct technical term :gig

Sorry about your birds!

Thanks. Everyone here has been amazingly kind and supportive. I will get back into the chicken game next year.

I like the change of seasons but I’m not a fan of lots of snow. 20 years of driving in it and I still don’t like to. I’d like about 6” and stop, that can melt to about 3”-4” then snow again to reach that 6” mark. Seems like a good compromise to me but Mother Nature and Old Man Winter have not agreed.

I’m still battling mites! They invaded my laundry room. It was so gross. Skin crawling makes you itchy thinking about it gross. All the birds have been sprayed. The coop has been sprayed. The laundry room has been sprayed!

I’m sick and tired of sick birds! But I’m doing battle. Seems like it’s going to be more of a siege but I’ll win!

Ewww! So sorry Nunny. Keep up the good fight!

You as well Bob.

It is starting to calm down outside which is nice.
I need to remember to close the rest of the windows on the big coop too.

No need for the wind to whip through there.
It'd be nice if winter didn't drop in so quickly. I just took down the window fan and put the plexiglass in the door. Windows are still open. How do you handle the whole ventilation thing if you close up your windows? I close mine also, bc it snows here, plus there's the whole freezing cold air blowing directly on my sleeping birds. I have 4 vents higher up, i feel like they're enough, but then you get the lecture from people who insist you need more.

Snow?? :clap Send some my way. :ya
You can have any that we're supposed to get in OH before December 1st. And after January 3rd. I'll get the reroute slip typed up this afternoon.

I was being a little silly/sarcastic lol. More referencing the extreme moisture involved when a bloodhound gets a drink. :p

Thinking I would need paper towels delivered by the pallet!
Have you considered a bath mat under/ in front of the water dishes? or those dish mats?

Yup! I thought I would have more time for you guys when I got back to work, but apparently not. Things have been busy. Getting back to work has been much easier than last time. After I went back to work with Thing 1, I had forgotten almost everything to do with my job. This time, all I had to do was reset a few passwords. I'm not sure if it is the difference between 1 and 4 years on the job, or the fact that I was in "mommy brain" mode when I relearned my job and have been nursing or pregnant since.

Thing 1 is growing up all the time. Some of the stuff he comes up with is hysterical! The Milk Drinker is now more than double his birth weight. He's 3.5 months old now. He's still sleeping through the night for the most part (if he wakes at all, its only once a night). In the past week he's started grabbing things to chew on them.

Here's some sleeping boy cuteness. @staceyj @Texas Kiki

Adorable & you look amazing! It probably helps w/ the mommy brain that you're getting more sleep this time around.

The run I have been working on ..

Nice! You build such great things.

I am sad to report many losses from Squatcher flocks. I lost all but one of my birds to dogs. Apryl and Nunny both lost birds to diseases, mites, other sad things.

On a happier note though...

-Henny and her DH have selected their new pup River. Henny has been dog sitting her and all the other wrinkle puppies from time to time.

-Chicky had a birthday and has been endeavoring to sex-down (de-sexify?) a gifted Halloween costume.

-Anansi had a birthday too and also acquired an awesome new service dog (Peach) for one of her daughters.

-Nunny’s friend helped cut down a lot of annoying trees on her property.

-Cappy performed well on her stress test.

-My DH bought me an adorable leopard gecko. We named him Hoshi

-Ruby has been hanging out with us again lately (yay!) She recently moved to Colorado.

-Bob is figuring out the best way to butcher the piggies

Annndddd that is all I can remember. Good to have you back Rae!
Great summation!

Same, but you guys get it way worse up north. There was a job for the Geauga library system that I'd considered, but then it snows a lot more up there and there's this one part of 88 that has fields on both sides and I'm not volunteering to deal w/ the blowing snow that goes through there on a regular basis. I swear they don't believe in plow trucks up there.
Would your ozone thing work on the mites in the house? I hope you figure something out.

The other day Nibbler was hanging behind in the coop after I let everyone out. I let her go at her own pace while I was cleaning things up and noticed she was starring at me. I'd been giving her treats after the other 2 deaths b/c I thought she might be sad since she'd been standing/ lying around while everyone else was eating. So of course she'd learned to hang back after everyone else went outside to get some secret treats. She seems to be doing better and the past couple of days she's gone out with everyone else. She's molting now (did she ever stop?!) so it could have been sadness + the molting that made her seem sick/ mopey.. but of course a handful of secret treats seems to have helped her perk up.

Blossom update: after several weeks as a house chicken, she has made a full recovery :wee

This week she will be moving outside and starting integration into her new flock.

My coops have open soffits covered in hardware cloth. I made big overhangs too.
In summer with all the windows open it is like an open air coop. :p
Bath mats are a great idea! Been needing to do that for a decade! Jack has a beard so yeah.....a river is made every time he drinks.

Oh.. I only have soffits in the back & they're covered (didn't think to leave them open during construction.

The catch 22 is if the wind is really whipping. It does manage to blow a bit of snow in. I had to add baffles in 10° weather to slow it down.
