We don't have anything that old running and OS, but we have several towers that were purchased in 2000 running off a cd/floppy that is used to create our wireless networks. They're using a setup from 2008 that hasn't had any kind of software upgrade since 2013. It works, & my boss was refusing to purchase anything so it was never replaced even though we have talked for years about needed to get something to replace it. We were supposed to get new firewalls that could have the capability of replacing these machines, but it never happened even though I told her exactly what to get.Dudley the pug is bigger for now. The goats are just a month old tomorrow. plus they are dwarfs.
Well just so you know you aren’t alone, my boss refuses to get rid of his 1999 (yes, the year 1999) inventory and pos system. Because it still works, why upgrade?
We haven’t had a full backup run in over 2 years because one file is corrupted and cant be backed up. Luckily we’ve never had to reinstall, but he doesn’t want to see how screwed we are if/WHEN that thing fails. I have an old server from around 2002 that we only use for one thing. Thank goodness I’ve moved everything else off it. I could go on and on, but I’m sure you get it!
Good luck with the interviews. There is something to be said for liking your job anyway. So maybe the risk of losing you will be enough to spur some changes. I put my foot down and said if we didn’t go to a central payroll, I’d leave, so I did get ADP on board a couple years ago.
About the same here. Blasted hawks don’t care. One swooped down and scared all my birds this morning. Huge baztard.
We have a firewall that has server 2003 running. Like you, pretty much everything is off of it. It actually houses a website that our wireless network links to so patrons can download installers for the wireless printers. Why isn't that off our reg website, you ask? I'd like to know that too. The server that goes through that firewall is also server 2003, was formatted w/ a 3G C:\ drive (why? IDK.) even though the hdd is much larger. So nothing much can be done with it at this point. I *could* try installed server 2012, but there's no point b/c it's only used for that 1 thing now. It was our exchange server and website many years ago, but those aren't used at all anymore.
It's ridiculous how people are. Esp when they're flat out told that an os is no longer safe to use. My boss REFUSED to give of old laptops & computers even though they had a old OS. She held on to some Winxp pcs for so long even though they weren't being used, that the capacitors on the motherboard expanded & started to smell. They just needed thrown away & she couldn't do it. Obviously she was having major issues, but that doesn't make any of it ok. When we first replaced those computer we talked about selling them & I cleaned them all up for that prospect. Then they sat there for 2 years, Winxp was end of lifed & then she's arguing w/ me that we could still sell them. No, you cannot give the unsuspecting public 10 year old computers that you know are not safe. "But they could use them for a word processor". SMH
