Official Squatch Watchers

Ok, I have a question for you all. I want a “rainbow” basket and I’m looking for a dark egg layer. I’m considering between Welsummers and BCMs. I know BCMs have darker eggs but I’ve heard Welsummers are better tempered. And no, the answer is not “get both”. I’m looking into getting black/blue/splash Americauna’s for colored eggs and black/blue/splash LF Cochins for broodies.

My welsummer lays medium light color eggs. I hear that the cuckoo marans from hatcheries tend to lay lighter too.

I have a barnevelder that is young yet. Not a great layer they were dark. She is taking the winter off.

I would go with a BCM if it were me.

No clue about trees, chickens breeds or poop.

Those bad boy cochins will be Sam’s if he still wants them in a month? Not sure I can wait that long. I may snap a neck. I do not growl back. I either stomp at them or if they get caught being bad they go to timeout. Little terrors!!

ETA: laughing about the trees and poop comment.
Naughty boys are NOT funny :he

I’m ordering chicks or hatching eggs from http://deerrunfarmmd.com/

I have their Delawares and am pleased with their vigor and size (not so pleased with how bossy they are).

They breed their Marans to the French standard and the keep both black and blue copper varieties. Although I’m considering their Welsummers because they admit their Marans don’t lay very well. Their Amerucanas are goregous.

Yes! Finally somebody else thinks delawares are bossy! I'm not totally crazy......on this.:)
