Great news Rae

:frow Good afternoon Cappy, have a great day...

Parront, the key is in the ammo... CCI Mini-Caps or quiets... I think they've renamed them but here a link to a video that gives you a sense of volume
Thanks for that Bob, but do they make ammo like that for .38? If not I need to get a nice .22, and the nice little lever-action 22 like I had when I was a kid.

First chicks since the early 90's are on the way! I got a call @ 7:00 am from Ideal that they do not have all the brown sex-links I ordered, sending 7 red sex-link and 3 brown. These were just to fill the box, if you do not order 25, they will fill the box with roosters! Happy with this result, these chicks can get my set up going, because I will have some of Bob's rare Barred Hollands for my flock! I have some folks on the AZ thread who want all the extras they can get, since chick are in short supply right now. I saw an ad on the Phoenix Craig's List selling brown sex-links for $50.:lau I could not believe my eyes, so I favorite the ad, and they took it down a couple of days later. People are nuts right now! LOL, I just do not think that the world is ending right now, but, if people want to pay a lot for chicks, who am I to complain? I am giving them to the AZ people for cost, I am not a profiteer! :D

We don't worry about gunshots here unless it sounds like they've reloaded more than once, or have a larger clip. Some of the neighbors down the road call the cops, but I stopped fussing about it too much since the last time the cops came out to the former drug house and said there were no new bullet holes, and that they must've been using a revolver, as there were no shells.

Good morning folks :frow

Unfortunately, it's time to get a .22. Not that I have any "real" experience, but with that ammo you can shoot a rabbit off a persons front porch at 2 AM and not wake anyone up.

There were times in my life that getting meat was a difficult proposition.

5 Cornish babies now! 3 more eggs are pipped.

However I've run into an issue with two of them. They are both HALs babies so I want to save them if possible. Both chicks have their legs splayed WAY out in front of them. Usually when this happens their legs are in a V shape, so putting on hobbles pulls their legs underneath their bodies. Not this time. They stayed out in front and the chicks couldn't get anywhere on their legs.

So I decided to try something different. When I rolled the chicks over on their backs, their legs went into the right position. You can see in this picture how the poor little thing has been rubbing it's hocks on the floor.

So I cut a strip of vet wrap in half.
IMG_0431.JPG

I wrapped it around the chick to hold the legs in that bent position.

I also folded the vet wrap down under the wings so they weren't pushed up really high around their ears.

I'm going to leave them like that for a few hours to see if I can get them to keep their feet under them. I was careful not to wrap them too tight, but as you can see, It pushed some poop out of them. If this doesn't work, I'm going to have to cull them anyway. I left the hobbles on because they would help hold their legs in place by sticking to the vet wrap.

Have I ever said how much I LOVE vet wrap?

Have you tried putting them in a tea cup with paper towel in the bottom? I love that textured shelf paper for my brooders.
