I wish I could send Mo one of these roosters, they puff up on the ground after they get the girls to safety.
They run and puff if one has already landed.
It works pretty well, all those feathers make them look huge.
Mo would have some funny looking chicks though.
If the chicks or hens stay in sight of the turkeys or roos, they will run over . But when they sneak out the far end of the poultry yard out of sight, no one can see what is going on. With 7 broodies with chicks they tend to spread out

Silkie looks like she was a sweety
Sorry that she was your favorite that got taken.

I feel bad for those who get killed, but I guess it's part of having chickens
Thanks. I didn't even name her, I think it's bad luck. Like being a favorite. I sold the rest of my silkies after that, they weren't half as nice as she was. Got Seramas instead.

Before anybody says it yes I know it is a weed lol!
I don't know how many northies and westies have these but it is a maypop or purple passion flower
Im hoping to get at least one fruit they are delicious as long as they're ripe.View attachment 2298687

Don't feel too bad for them. It is over very quickly, and likely they don't know what happened or they were only afraid for a short time.

When I had a hawk get my banties, we were at first worried that my larger birds were beating up on them and they were dying because of that. One day I was driving out to run errands and I saw something out of the corner of my eyes that I thought looked like a naked chicken standing in a pile of feathers. I stop and look more closely, it was a hawk standing on top of one of my banties, eating it. I was a little relieved that it was a quick death and not a torturous one at the beaks of flockmates.

It can be a slow death, I found a hawk one day standing on my rooster and ripping hunks of muscle off while the rooster screamed. I scared off the hawk but the rooster died from shock I think. The hawk broke a window to get at the rooster. So now I put wire over all windows.

Yes worse ways to die than a hawk. My imagination is vivid though lol

Ugh, that's horrible. I thought they knocked them out by hitting them hard so they didn't have a fight on their... uh... talons. Although, I guess since it broke through the window it didn't have the speed to knock out the rooster when it caught it.
