Official Squatch Watchers

I feel dumb, I had to look up what an IBC tote was.
Felt even dumber when I realized that is what my burn cage is, a cage off one of those totes.
Where do you ever start looking for one of those?
My dad got the one here and there isn't any telling where he got it.
I have been wanting at least 1 IBC Tote. We went to look at a place nearby, and bought 2. Dh took the trailer to go get them, and just got back. Happy early birthday to me. Yay!

Google search has worked for me. If you want it for water collection, make sure it's food grade and had food in it. I also painted mine in VA to keep Algae from growing in it.

rjohns, I intend to run a strip of duct tape from bottom to top, in a straight line, then paint mine white. That should help prevent algae, and give me a viewing window too. Painting it dark would heat the water inside, so I decided that white should be good.

Chicka, make sure they were food grade, and only had a food type product in them. Example: Here we have Tropicana (Orange Juice). They pick the oranges, squeeze the juice, and put it into the IBC totes. The totes of juice are then taken so they can package it, or reduce it for frozen concentrate. Once the totes have been used once, by law they are not considered food grade, so they have to buy new totes. They sell the old ones at a fraction of the cost of the new ones. In this instance, they can be easily cleaned, disinfected, and repurposed. There is another place across town, that has them, and they were used for flavoring/extract. Again, these can be easily cleaned, disinfected, and repurposed.

If they've had pesticide, fertilizer, or cooking oil in them, I would not recommend repurposing them for anything pertaining to food, or water.

A neighbor cut the tops off of several of them, and used them for his hydroponic garden. I know of another place that uses them as tanks for sorting, and growing Tilapia (fish).

It's been busy here and a sad event.

The busy part was getting ready for concrete. Yup I dug out 2 flower beds and planted what I could in new areas out back. The rest waits in pots.
The garden is producing well. That means a lot of processing has been going on.

The sad event is Bitty passed away. I will miss my tiny clown.

Thank you Mo.
Sorry about Bitty.
Thank you Clue.

She was a sweet little bird and had a long life. She was a great little mama bird and raised her adopted kids well.
I was surprised she made it through winter at her age.
