I'm considering going to Tractor Supply tomorrow and getting one of those rabbit hutch house things for emergencies. So I can bring them into the basement easier.

Lmao... I did, and he still doesn't appreciate me! Men!
Our coop was 22 degrees this evening while it was 8 degrees outside but the heater was on low at 65. I bumped it up to high... even with the electric water heater Their water was still freezing on the side closest to the door.

And this is what I was dealing with earlier:

It looks way worse than it is. I don't know if she had frostbite and started bleeding or if somebody just went off and attacked her but when I got in there this evening there was blood everywhere and all my white birds have blood splatter on them there's blood on the wall, there's blood on the roost and there is poor Jackie sitting on the roost shaking her head back and forth because her comb was bleeding. I cleaned it up but every time I'd wipe a spot it would take off the clot and it start bleeding again. I tried some of the green goo on it but it didn't really seem to stop the bleeding. And she kept shaking her head back and forth which I think was dislodging any scabs that we're trying to form. My blue coated her and put her back outside with the others. Loki was bothering her but I yelled at her and she stopped. So now I have to get up extra early tomorrow morning so I can go out and check on her before I go into work. Literally every day I mutter to myself at least once "Tatering chickens. So if they are messing with her again tomorrow she is going to end up in the basement until her comb heals up enough to let her back out. Hopefully it won't end up like another Odin Saga where they never leave her alone again.

In the absence of special bird powder to stop bleeding.....
Corn starch will stop the bleeding. Just something to keep in mind. Use it dry on the wound.

Poor baby!!! You know the quick stop powder for dog claws or men’s shaving, can that be used on combs?

Your chickens are just taters! I've done everything possible to the coop here there is a good 5 inches of bedding, they're ventilated, the roosts are wide so they can cover their feet but even with all that i know it's butt cold out there. I wish i already had a heater but i wasn't expecting flipping Antarctica to hit.
Apparently they moved Antarctica to the United States. Someone just forgot to tell us.

This stuff is good on lots of things.
I have used it on a dogs foot pad when my old gal cut her pad.

They sell this junk called woundseal powder that is the bomb for stopping bleeding. I try to keep some but hubs keeps stealing it.
I was completely unaware of any of this. I'll pick some up to add to my chicken repair kit. Thanks!

Lol! All the injuries around here i can personally vouch all the methods absolutely work. One more, in the spice isle of the grocery store there is something called alum it will also stop bleeding and shrink swollen tissue.

I would put a heater in my coop if it was less than 10*
I had to pick up another thermometer humidity monitor for the coop. I have a heat bulb if needed or little space heaters if I can secure them. Worried about how taterin dusty it is out there. Thought about one of those panel heaters but they have terrible reviews.

Did you look at the cozy legs heater? It's flat and it's cheap but it works really good. That's what i did have until i let the mother in law borrow it and it never came home. It wouldn't do for a huge area but it would definitely take the chill off. BTW the heater was ment to warm legs under desks so it's pretty darn safe.

The heat bulb should keep it warm enough. If you need the heater you probably should make a cage out of hardware cloth to put it in
