Rae! Happy anniversary! we must have signed up right around the same time last year. :hugs

Let's talk about that MD and the puking cough.

You have a stethoscope, correct?
Are you hearing any wheeze at all at the tail end of inspiration/expiration? Close your eyes when you listen.
It can be so small of a sound. Like a squeak. Or a rub. A chirp.

On the other hand if he's producing copious phlegm (and /or snot) and you are hearing a silent spot or even a spot duller than anywhere else sounds, it could be pneumonia.
He's a year and a half?
Will he copy you?
See if you can get him to say the letter E. stretch it out. EEEEeeeeee!
You do it. Have him do it, as you move the stethoscope around. Pneumonia sometimes makes the sound of the letter "E" sound like "A".
I nursed all my kids (forever) in the hopes of cancelling out DH's family history of asthma and allergies. -in retrospect, he came from HORRIBLE breeding stock! Lololol
Ah, but I loved him. And I was young.

Despite my best efforts, 50% of our children had/has asthma.
1 outgrew it.
The other never had any typical symptoms, even played sports etc, but as soon as they got sick with an URI it would blow up.
75% have horrible allergies.

The point I'm making is, if this kind of coughing continues I'd see the pediatrician. Sometimes a small dose of a bronchodilator will make a huge difference in surpressing that cough reflex that's coming from the inflammation in the reactive lungs and allows the child to get better faster.

Good afternoon everyone! I've been lurking for a while but between work and dealing with my poor little sick Milk Drinker, I've been busy. The poor little guy has so much phlegm that it is making him throw up. I'm keeping an eye out for dehydration and infection. I just hope he gets over this soon. This cough started on Sunday.

Today marks my one year anniversary of joining BYC. YAY!

@apryl29 , There's a product called EMT GEL
It's available on Amazon. It's an ointment but it sort of hardens like Amber. A lot of horse people use it. It's great for stopping bleeding among other things.
Thanks! I'll check it out. That might be a good solution for Odin since they won't stop messing w/ his comb.

I'm going to be absent this afternoon/tomorrow.
Driving up and back to va again.
Have a safe trip and stay warm!!

I braved the FREEEEEZZZZINNNNGGGGGG 0 degree weather this morning to check on everyone. It was 22 degrees in the coop w/ the heater on high! Just happy it's above 0. I tossed in a cabbage & a bunch of scratch to occupy them some today. Need to make another wreath. (No crickets b/c I think it encourages their mean girl attitudes) Jackie looked good. No more bleeding. Looks like a crime scene in there w/ all the blood spatter. Now I'm wondering if I should worry about cleaning it in the future. It's on the walls, in a nesting box. Thankfully she's a darker colored bird so any blood on her feathers wouldn't draw attention. I think I washed the other ones off enough to deter pecking.. at least it appeared that way since no one was being chewed on this morning.
I think I have a rat that has made it's way into the run.. could be a chippy though.. squirrel would be too big. Doubt it's gotten inside the coop b/c the pop doors are closed and the foot prints were made on fresh snow this am. I'm more worried that if the chickens get it someone will get bit in the fight. I don't mind chippies or squirrels, but rats can tater off.

Next 7 days for me, highs in the mid 40s, lows in the mid 30s. :wee
Perfect chicken owning weather. They'll be deliriously happy. Ugh... I remember when the temps got 'down to' 38 in Nov and I was all worried about my stupid chickens.... All the things I didn't know...

Wal-Mart has packs of the military grade coagulating powder in the camping section. It's the stuff they put on gunshot wound and stuff.
OOooo awesome! Thanks!

Wow... 105 is super hot, but I kind of question the quality of the road materials b/c it was just the right lane of that road and they sent someone out to fix it. I wonder if they're as strange as Americans get when it's hot and start 'cooking' things on sidewalks, or baking cookies in their cars. Also, do they have a rash of idiots who forget their children/ pets in cars there too?

Morning Squatchers.
I ended up having to go to the ER yesterday. We had had the guy who was there before, when my brother was sick. This guy said he was fine.

He ended up having pneumonia.
He said my problem was a lack of humidity due to the wood stove. He recommended getting a humidifier and some plants to raise the humidity.
We already have a bunch of plants, multiple aquariums which lose water at an alarmingly fast rate, and a humidifier.
He said if I didn't have strep, I was fine.
Did the strep test.
Woopeeh, no strep. How exciting. Like that's what we thought it was.
Just in case, we put the humidifier in my room.
It worked very well. I was literally damp when I woke up.
I am feeling no better.
Uhg.

Sorry for my rant, I'm just feeling really yucky this morning and I'm pretty sure it isn't from a lack of humidity.
