Wow, did it just happen, or did you just find it? I hope all your others are safe and whatever it was doesn't come back.

PIC said some of the Brats were missing. We went outside and found 2 *missing* (one was buried under the hay), and this one with the injury... so, I just dispatched her.... about 10 minutes prior to posting the pictures.

Pisses me off, the first chicken I cull is on the anniversary of David Bowie's death... gah!

I think drywall has lots of calcium and cuttlebone too. Eggshells are not pure calcium but are ok to use. I always dry and crush them so they don't look like eggs.
All my egg shells get rinsed and tossed into a gallon size ziplock bag in the bottom drawer of the fridge.
When it's full inrinsce then again and spread them out on a big sheetpan and bake them off. Then they go in a clean bag and I hammer them with a wooden crab mallet. It's great if you're mad at somebody.

I have a bowl of oyster shell but sometimes them just go nuts over the egg shell bits.
The rest get incorporated into my garden in the spring.

I bet I have at least 3 pounds by now saved up.

I'm so sorry Smuvs! That must be awful!

I just went out to see the chickens for the first time. Dove definitely has frostbite, and it's not looking good. I got some coconut oil, but now I'm faced with a predicament: How the heck do I get it on her? She kept on dodging her head around. She was too busy trying to eat the coconut oil to let me put it on her.

Coconut oil's not going to do much good now, and rubbing things on frostbit flesh is painful and injures it further, unfortunately. :(

Hi you fine folk. Would you mind if I join the craziness?
