I hope you find out what has been visiting your coop. I would be freaked out about it. Any marks on the coop from the scratching?
Foot prints?

Nassy buggers trying to get the poor birds. :barnie

I am heading out to get stuff for egg rolls and turkey wraps in a bit. Trying to find creative ways to use up the turkey leftovers.

Suggestions??
I've been locking them in at night so I think they're fine. I just have bird netting over their run and it's worked all summer, but I'm going to cover in it chicken wire this weekend. I know hardware wire is better, but I'm not sure it could support the weight hanging across, plus it's way more expensive. The sides of that run are a wooden snow fence lined with chicken wire on the inside so nothing can get through the slats. I haven't even seen any indication of something trying to get into that run. It's actually by Odin's run that I've noticed the wire was pushed in on, about 2' off the ground. Again, it's chicken wire, but I don't think anything can get in b/c I feel like if it could it would have by now (it has 4x4's along the bottom edge). No foot prints, even when it was muddy. Hopefully the camera will catch whatever it is.

Have you ever made deconstructed egg rolls? It's super easy and soooo good. Just take ground sausage (or whatever meat), cook it and drain, then add a bagged cabbage mix (or shred your own cabbage & carrots) and cook until it's slightly wilted. Then you can eat it that way, or with tortilla chips. I LOVE eggrolls sooo much. This place where I live makes the best egg rolls. I swear they put crack in them so you keep coming back for more.

I can't remember if I shared it, but I'd set a trap this weekend. I'd had it up off and on for a while. Kept forgetting to reset it after letting the chickens out. Anyway, I caught a possum! It was about the size of a cat. It was released. My mom said she'd heard scratching coming from the area of the coop. I don't think it was the possum though. My new trail cam came yesterday so tonight I'm picking up batteries and an sd card, then I'll put it up to see what's out there. I'm so excited! It's a Spypoint Force 10 Trail Camera. I hope it works, I'm going to have it pointed towards the coop so I need to figure out how to keep the chickens from setting it off.
the time I had chickens in high school they kept getting killed... we thought a coon, but found a possum eating a dead chicken.. figured he was eating an already killed chicken, but after he was gone no chickens were killed for a week or so.. until more predators showed up.. this time I have secure coops

Oh good idea to add some sausage!
I am trying to disguise the turkey as we are all pretty burned out on it.

Hubby will eat pretty much anything that is deep fried lol.

Deconstructed sounds fun..... Maybe if I deep fry some strips of the wrappers.....

My big coop has a chicken wire roof. It does need some support. I have had hawks sitting on it as well as the raccoons. No entry as of yet and it has been several years.

Wow. I didn't think a possum would actually kill a chicken.. they seem soo... pathetic. Hmm, maybe it was that little guy then. That's what I get for feeling sorry for it.

I usually freeze some turkey in small packs to use for turkey soup. Also turkey fried rice.

I'm so tired of pine shavings being everywhere! Everytime i go to the coop i swear i bring in half of them.
Same, but w/ straw.

I bought the compressed wood pellets that turn into sawdust (essentially). ALL. OVER. THE. HOUSE!!!!! I don’t think I will buy it again.

I had part if a rotisserie chicken I put in the run and the chickens are loving it.

It has been nice to have a couple of warm weeks for the baby chicks. So sweet to watch 2 week old babies dust bathing in the sun.

Oy, you guys posted 20 more pages literally overnight! I got to the part with cross stitch, then gave up. Looks like we're doing birth months? I'm in the middle of July. My littlest brother was born five days before my fifth birthday, so we like to joke that he was my early b'day present. It's really funny, cuz he and I are really close.

It happens a LOT Ruby.... it's hard to keep up but, just so you know, just jump back in! We're all just bs-ing most of the time :D

Stacey, you were born the same year as my little brother. I am a 1956 model, classic year! So i am an even older granny!

Cappy, you ARE almost as old as my mom!!! BUAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

Anything chicken can do. Turkey fried rice. Turkey noodle soup. Turkey tetrazzinni. Turkey noodle casserole (instead of tuna). Meatballs are super easy too. Take ground cooked turkey and mix it into some regular raw ground beef.
