I can totally see why you might be tempted to bring them in. This is just ridiculous cold, everybody's little roos and hens getting frostbite regardless what they've done to prevent it absolutely crazy.
Love the wind chill to -24° I might have chickens living in my basement before this is over. LOL

Gotta suck harder.... like you're trying to get a thick shake up a straw.... :sick
Ew.

Did y'all know the propane people basically told me to tater off today? Well they did! I called to get propane I'm at like 25 percent, that's low and the woman told me Wensday at the earliest they're in "emergency mode" and to call back if i ran out. What in the tater?
Forever ago I had a trailer and we had propane heat. When we moved in I signed up With a place whose tank was already there. They came filled the tank it was like $700. Then every time they came to the damn Park they would top it off. So it was impossible to ever get it paid down because of this constantly being added to. It made me so angry. Then we went on will-call which you had to get a minimum amount And pay it all up front. You couldn't do payments and not have them constantly refilling your tank. Absolutely ridiculous.

How did you clean their nose holes
I like how you specifically said nose holes. LOL I did not suck on their nose just so everybody is aware. I took some Q-tips and dip them in water so they were barely damp and just rubbed them gently over their nostrils. I did not stick the Q-tip in their nose. In Odin's case because of the way his comb comes down over his nostrils I used the edge of my fingernail to pick away the food that was stuck there after it was moistened. He has like this little pocket. I only did this once because they had been sneezing and haven't noticed any stuff stuck in there like that since. But that was later in the fall. I think a lot of the dust and stuff that was up in their nose was from their dust baths.
:rant
Ugh.. We should box some of that up and send it to Sam.

I'm considering going to Tractor Supply tomorrow and getting one of those rabbit hutch house things for emergencies. So I can bring them into the basement easier.

@TexasSam I'm with you there, it's supposed to be 15 tonight and that's as far as I'm willing to go without a flat panel. @apryl29 You picked Odin's nose lol!
Lmao... I did, and he still doesn't appreciate me! Men!
Our coop was 22 degrees this evening while it was 8 degrees outside but the heater was on low at 65. I bumped it up to high... even with the electric water heater Their water was still freezing on the side closest to the door.

And this is what I was dealing with earlier:

It looks way worse than it is. I don't know if she had frostbite and started bleeding or if somebody just went off and attacked her but when I got in there this evening there was blood everywhere and all my white birds have blood splatter on them there's blood on the wall, there's blood on the roost and there is poor Jackie sitting on the roost shaking her head back and forth because her comb was bleeding. I cleaned it up but every time I'd wipe a spot it would take off the clot and it start bleeding again. I tried some of the green goo on it but it didn't really seem to stop the bleeding. And she kept shaking her head back and forth which I think was dislodging any scabs that we're trying to form. My blue coated her and put her back outside with the others. Loki was bothering her but I yelled at her and she stopped. So now I have to get up extra early tomorrow morning so I can go out and check on her before I go into work. Literally every day I mutter to myself at least once "Tatering chickens. So if they are messing with her again tomorrow she is going to end up in the basement until her comb heals up enough to let her back out. Hopefully it won't end up like another Odin Saga where they never leave her alone again.

Your chickens are just taters! I've done everything possible to the coop here there is a good 5 inches of bedding, they're ventilated, the roosts are wide so they can cover their feet but even with all that i know it's butt cold out there. I wish i already had a heater but i wasn't expecting flipping Antarctica to hit.
