Official Squatch Watchers

I’ve heard if you empty out your coop then spray it down with bleach let it soak in and rinse it out after ten minutes that will kill all the bugs. I know dish soap will kill any and all bugs and you can spray it on anything plants animals the ground and it is safe

The whole spraying and Rinsing part is an issue up here in the North. I did soak my rooster to deal with his mites but they were much worse than the girls, but it was warmer out. At this point you have to make sure you fully dry the birds before putting them back in the coop.

What about a kiddie pool with ash and sand

Yeah, my coop is divided in half so all the birds have to be banished to the runs while i clean. Hoping it will warm up a bit. Bitter cold and windy out there!

Just got back in from my third trip outside tonight! First i had to go get the new bunnies settled in , make sure they had food , water and hay. Then i had to go check the water heaters for the chickens because i had turned them off when it was warm out. So i gave them fresh water while i was there.
Then the weather came on and it said 20 F plus wind chill out there! Oh heck no, my veggies were not tucked in! I had hung the canvas up to dry after the rain. Phew. Hopefully i got them covered up in time.

Thoughts on this for in the coop? I have a regular one out there but want to monitor better while using the heat light. Wondered if this would work. I can check from the house and not have to gear up and trudge out there.
I had two that the sensor looked the same. It was accurate but the birds knocked one down into the bedding and burried it..a different coop the cattle panels interfered and it couldn't pickup the signal... but I live next to high power lines

There is a spray for bed bugs that is permethrin based and an aerosol.
Basically instant death to bugs in the coop.

My run in with mites were the tiny nearly microscopic ones. They were in the external nest box my broody was in. Pissed me off and Home depot was out of sevin dust. I got the bed bug spray and it was instant bug death. I had enough sevin to dust the birds. I did do the repeat seven days later.

Cap if you have a big tote you can set the bird in there and work the powder in all over. I have also read that a plastic bag, lower bird in, hold closed around neck and give them the shake-n-bake treatment. I think their claws would rip the bag and still make a mess.

Do wear a dust mask when treating the birds and coop.

It so sucks you lost her that way.
